WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Hidden camera video captured Sen. Elissa Slotkin describing Democrats’ planned “signature cases” against the Trump administration and its allies.
- Slotkin said every committee would pursue selected cases intended to hold people accountable beginning in January.
- Her examples included the White House ballroom project, the National Mall reflecting pool renovation, and $200 million connected to the War Department.
- Slotkin also discussed Hungary, Viktor Orbán, and her public accusations that Trump administration projects and spending constitute corruption.
A hidden camera video obtained by Townhall and posted Friday on the outlet’s X account captured Sen. Elissa Slotkin discussing what Democrats plan to pursue in January if they win the midterms. The clip was filmed Thursday at a Michigan campaign event where Slotkin appeared in support of congressional candidate Sean McCann.
An undercover reporter told Slotkin that Democrats might be “too nice” and pressed her about prosecutions targeting the Trump administration and its allies.
Slotkin did not brush aside the premise. She replied that she was “with you” and proceeded to describe a list of cases that Democrats would spotlight through congressional committees.
“We have a list of, like, the ‘signature cases.’ So the things where it’s, like, so egregious, such a violation of law, such a corruption case… and we will have, in every committee, there will be the ‘signature cases’ where we hold people accountable.”
Slotkin said those cases would focus on matters “that people identify with.” Her answer suggested Democrats already have specific administration projects and spending decisions in mind for their planned committee campaign.
The senator named the White House ballroom project in the East Wing and the reflecting pool renovation on the National Mall. She also pointed to “$200 million in, you know, from the War Department” as another example of the spending she wants examined.
Slotkin then supplied the expected timetable for this campaign, telling the undercover reporter, “So that’s what you’ll see basically in January.”
The January reference followed her description of “signature cases” inside every committee. Her remarks offered an unusually direct preview of the cases Democrats would seek to elevate if they gain the necessary power after the midterms.
During the same conversation, Slotkin brought up a recent trip to Budapest. She said the visit was connected to Hungary’s political experience and her interest in how the country handled years of alleged corruption.
“I just went to Hungary. I went over to Budapest because they just got rid of their authoritarian leader after 16 years. And I’m like, how did you handle 16 years of corruption? We don’t have that much, but we have so much.”

The hidden camera remarks track with public comments Slotkin has made in recent weeks. Her discussion of Hungary, corruption, and Trump administration projects echoed themes she raised during a September appearance.
In a September speech at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Slotkin discussed lessons from Hungary’s political shift away from Viktor Orbán. She also described President Donald Trump as being on track to become “the most successful corrupt leader in the world’s history.”
Slotkin cited family wealth gains and projects such as a golden ballroom while making that accusation. The ballroom subject also appeared among the examples she provided to the undercover reporter when discussing planned committee cases.
Slotkin, a former CIA officer serving her first term in the Senate, has repeatedly labeled administration projects and spending as “corruption.” The newly published exchange shows how that rhetoric could translate into specific committee targets after the midterms.
Earlier this year, Slotkin joined other Democrat lawmakers in a video reminding service members of their duty to refuse illegal orders. The Trump Justice Department later opened an inquiry into the matter, but the inquiry did not result in charges.

The American people need you to stand up for our laws and our Constitution. Don’t give up the ship. https://t.co/N8lW0EpQ7r — Sen. Elissa Slotkin (@SenatorSlotkin) November 18, 2025
Her latest remarks place those planned “signature cases” squarely on the January calendar. From the White House ballroom project to spending connected to the War Department, Slotkin laid out the subjects Democrats could pursue through every committee if they win the midterms.
