Five years after its launch, Angel Studios is putting a formal structure around the kind of entertainment it wants to release. The Christian production company and distributor is implementing “The Angel Promise,” a set of content standards presented as a values-based alternative to Hollywood’s prevailing output.
Angel Studios CCO Harmon framed the initiative as a response to an entertainment industry that he believes has become disconnected from a significant part of its audience. The standards prohibit sex, nudity, F-words, and what the company describes as misuse of God’s name.

Harmon told Fox News that Hollywood remains highly skilled at building stories and delivering them to viewers. His criticism focused not on the industry’s craftsmanship, but on the values reflected in much of its entertainment.
“I think Hollywood generally kind of lives in a bubble,” Harmon told Fox News. “These are excellent craftsmen. They’re the best storytellers in the world. Hollywood has built the best storytelling infrastructure in the world.”
Despite that praise, Harmon argued that the industry has moved further away from viewers seeking entertainment that reflects their values. He described that divide through his own experiences as a brother and father looking for suitable stories.
“But at the same time, they’ve kind of drifted more and more away from the values-based audience that they used to serve. And with that, in our view, as brothers and as fathers, as a father, Hollywood hasn’t been giving me consistently what I need. Once in a while, you get a good one, but you have to sift through all these things to find your good movies and your good stories,” he added.
Angel Studios is also giving its audience a direct role in determining what reaches the platform. Harmon said members of the Angel Guild have “a veto right,” creating an additional checkpoint for projects under consideration.
The Angel Guild has a purported membership of 3 million people. That audience-driven mechanism is central to the studio’s effort to distinguish its selection process from the Hollywood system Harmon criticized.
“Our goal was to set out and try to fix this problem of kind of stepping out of the Hollywood bubble and stepping into middle America’s shoes,” added Harmon.
The company was founded in 2021 by Harmon, his brothers, and their cousin. Its releases include the faith-focused films Sound of Freedom from 2023, The King of Kings from 2025, and Animal Farm from 2026.
