Comedian Kathy Griffin says the outcome of the 2026 midterm elections could determine whether the United States becomes a “fully fascist nation,” delivering a frantic warning about Democratic prospects during the latest episode of her podcast.

Griffin insisted that Democrats must prevail in 2026 or the country will be finished. Her political rant also targeted people who are not speaking out about the election and its potential consequences.

The disgraced comedian presented the midterms as a defining national event rather than an ordinary political contest. She argued that the results will decide whether the United States crosses completely into what she described as fascism.

“This really is it. This is the big one that decides whether we are fully a fascist country or we, uh, are not,” Griffin said while criticizing those who have remained quiet about politics.

Her warning focused on the need for Democrats to secure power in Congress. Griffin specifically mentioned the House of Representatives and acknowledged that political pundits see a possible path for Democrats to win control.

“It’s essential that we win not only the House of Representatives, which most pundits think there’s a good chance the Democrats will win.”

Griffin did not soften her description of what she believes will happen if Democrats fail. She added that “we’re really screwed” if the party does not win the election.

The podcast episode then shifted from Griffin’s warnings about the country to her own emotional response. Later in the video, she said her concern about fascism has become so consuming that it is interfering with her sleep.

“Can any of you guys not sleep because of fascism? Me, too. I’m obsessed with it,” Griffin exclaimed, framing her sleeplessness as something viewers might also be experiencing.

Her comments grew more personal as she described visible physical symptoms during the recording. Griffin said she was sweating and experiencing anxiety while discussing what the election was doing to her.

“I have a flop sweat. I do. I’m just being honest. I’m having a little bit of an in-person um, live anxiety attack. And when I get those, I just flop sweat,” she said.

The admission placed Griffin’s distress at the center of the political appeal. Rather than limiting her message to the electoral stakes she had outlined, she described the immediate effect that her fears were having on her body.

Griffin repeatedly tied that anxiety to what she called fascism and to the possibility of Democrats losing. Her concern extended beyond control of the House, although the House of Representatives was the chamber she specifically identified during the quoted portion of her remarks.

Her language remained stark throughout the episode. The election, in Griffin’s telling, is “the big one,” Democrats must win, and failure would leave the country and her preferred party in disastrous circumstances.

The comedian’s appeal also carried a rebuke for people avoiding political commentary. By saying “This really is it,” Griffin portrayed silence about the coming midterms as unacceptable given the stakes she believes are involved.

At the same time, Griffin openly acknowledged just how overwhelmed she felt while making the case. She described herself as obsessed, unable to sleep, sweating, and undergoing what she called “a little bit of an in-person um live anxiety attack.”

The result was a midterm warning wrapped in an unusually candid account of personal distress. Griffin’s message was clear: she believes Democrats must win in 2026, and the prospect that they might not has left her losing sleep “because of fascism.”
