Reports are surfacing that the U.K.’s socialist-leaning Labour Party is gearing up to send dozens of operatives to the United States to support Kamala Harris's presidential campaign.
Roughly 100 current and former Labour Party staffers are planning to assist in key battleground states like North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Sofia Patel, Labour’s Head of Operations, initially shared this announcement via LinkedIn, but swiftly deleted the posts once the plan began attracting attention, as reported by The Daily Caller.
Is this legal? @ScottPresler @EarlyVoteAction

I actually just found the post on LinkedIn to verify was real and asked her if it was legal.
The post is real - unsure if the account is real or just a troll. They've got 3 posts.https://t.co/sL84d9iVeW pic.twitter.com/8RSGYIMqJx
Before her posts vanished, they were reviewed by The Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF), which highlighted that Labour staffers were eager to “help our friends across the pond elect their first female President.”

Huge: The UK’s far left Labour Party has been organizing FOR MONTHS to come to America to campaign for Kamala. This is foreign election interference. Their head of operations who has been a lead planner for Prime Minister Keir Starmer is in charge of this operation.

Patel’s deleted post also included a curious email address referencing “Labour for Kamala,” adding to the intrigue surrounding this collaboration.
This development has drawn harsh criticism from conservatives. Hans von Spakovsky, a legal expert from The Heritage Foundation, questioned the optics of Labour’s involvement, especially considering how loudly the Democrats have decried foreign influence in U.S. elections in the past.
"From the standpoint of public relations, the Democrat Party has been the loudest complainer about supposed ‘foreign interference’ in elections, starting with their false claims about Trump and the Russian government. Yet, here they are accepting volunteers from a foreign political party?” Spakovsky remarked. He emphasized that, while it’s technically legal for foreign volunteers to assist in campaigns, the public relations aspect is questionable at best.

UK: @UKLabour’s head of operations has announced that staff members of the left-wing party will travel to swing states in the U.S. to campaign for Kamala Harris.

It is believed to be the first confirmed plan by foreign political operatives to help Harris win the election.… pic.twitter.com/DcMIUhRwjn
The Federal Election Commission (FEC) provides clear-cut rules on foreign nationals participating in U.S. elections. While they are permitted to volunteer, they are prohibited from making any financial contributions or taking part in decision-making processes.
Moreover, travel expenses exceeding $1,000 could trigger legal consequences, as election law views such costs as contributions. Given the high cost of airfare and travel between key states, Labour staffers may be inadvertently putting the Harris campaign at risk of sanctions, as reported by The Washington Examiner.
Adding fuel to the fire, Nigel Farage, an ally of former President Trump, didn’t hold back, calling it “direct election interference by the Labour Party.”
Elon Musk and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene also weighed in, with Musk suggesting the move was illegal and Greene demanding that Labour focus on fixing its own country’s issues.
Hello @UKLabour.

You are breaking @FEC laws.
Foreign nationals are not allowed to be involved in anyway in U.S. elections.
Please go back to the UK and fix your own mass immigration problems that are ruining your country.

Despite the backlash, this isn't the first time Labour operatives have involved themselves in U.S. politics.
Just last month, Deborah Mattinson, a top Labour adviser, traveled to Washington, D.C., to offer insights from Labour’s own election strategies.
It appears Labour’s ties to the Harris campaign may run deeper than previously thought.
