Vice President Kamala Harris has come under fire, not from mainstream media, but from frustrated Americans on social media, for her tepid response to the catastrophic damage left in the wake of Hurricane Helene, as reported by Breitbart.
Kamala Harris is so freaking lost talking about Hurricane Helene
This is pitiful.
She has NO IDEA what’s going on. pic.twitter.com/0u6FtRP5aB

Hurricane Helene struck Florida’s Big Bend region late Thursday as a Category 4 storm, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
🚨🚨🚨
Please avoid going to the mountains or western NC.
Even major interstates like I-40 are closed to landslides and washouts.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, known for his effective hurricane responses, quickly mobilized recovery efforts, restoring power, clearing roadways, and inspecting bridges. However, the devastation extended far beyond the Sunshine State, hitting inland areas like Asheville, North Carolina, particularly hard. According to the Associated Press, at least 30 lives were lost in Asheville due to the storm.

Where is our “President” and “Vice President”?

Please be praying for #Asheville. I was finally able to escape east today, but it’s likely worse than anyone knows right now.

The Biden administration’s response, or lack thereof, has not gone unnoticed. “Asheville, North Carolina. East Palestine, Ohio. Lahaina, Hawaii. The list is endless. When disaster strikes, Kamala and Biden are nowhere to be found,” RNC Research remarked, capturing the frustration felt by many Americans.

Carmine Sabia, a journalist, compared Hurricane Helene’s aftermath to the disastrous response to Hurricane Katrina, stating, “Hurricane Helene’s devastation is a Katrina-like disaster and our leaders are AWOL.” Others echoed similar sentiments, calling Harris’s response “pitiful” and questioning her actions.
Hurricane Helene's devastation is a Katrina-like disaster and our leaders are AWOL.
President Joe Biden, if he is still president, is on vacation and Vice President Kamala Harris is campaigning.

Harris’s attempt to address the crisis came in the form of a photo she posted on X, in which she claimed to be on the phone with FEMA.
I was just briefed by @FEMA_Deanne Criswell on the latest developments about the ongoing impacts of Hurricane Helene. We also discussed our Administration's continued actions to support emergency response and recovery.
I also spoke with @NC_Governor Cooper about the ongoing… pic.twitter.com/nlZPB0h3mO— Vice President Kamala Harris (@VP) September 30, 2024

She also mentioned speaking with North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper about the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts. “Our Administration will continue to stay in constant contact with state and local officials to ensure communities have the support and resources they need,” she wrote, offering her “thoughts” to those affected.
However, the photo backfired. Social media users were quick to notice her headphones weren’t even plugged into her phone, sparking mockery and accusations of staging the image.
“What have you guys been doing? Because it seems like a lot of state and local officials and citizens doing the work,” one user pointed out. Another sarcastically asked, “Are we going to give them as much aid as you’ve given Ukraine?”
Vice President Kamala Harris has also come under fire for her decision to travel to Las Vegas during the ongoing disaster recovery. Instead of focusing on the hurricane’s aftermath, Harris attended a fundraising event in the city, further fueling outrage among Americans who feel the administration is neglecting its duty.
As photos circulated of her in Vegas, many questioned her priorities, with one X user remarking, “While Americans are suffering, Kamala is off collecting checks in Vegas. This administration just doesn’t care.”

Former President Donald Trump also weighed in, criticizing Harris for attending fundraising events in San Francisco instead of addressing the crisis.
“Why is Lyin’ Kamala Harris in San Francisco, a City that she has totally destroyed, at fundraising events, when big parts of our Country are devastated and under water – with many people dead?” Trump questioned.
Trump, in contrast, announced his plans to visit Valdosta, Georgia, on Monday to assess the damage from Hurricane Helene. “President Donald J. Trump…will visit Valdosta, Georgia to receive a briefing on the devastation of Hurricane Helene, facilitate the distribution of relief supplies, and deliver remarks to the press,” his campaign wrote.
This response from Trump is reminiscent of his actions following the East Palestine train derailment, where he arrived on the scene before the Biden administration, offering comfort and assistance to those affected.

As a Fla. resident, Thank you Gov. DeSantis ~
I dont think Phones have jacks anymore and they only use blue tooth….
Yes, they do. You can plug in earphones and mics.
I see Biden and Trump plan to visit disaster states. Bad idea. The resources needed to protect them and cover their accompanying personnel takes away from the needed work of recovering. I ask them to reconsider. Wait until the areas are better off and less emergency sites.
