Sean “Diddy” Combs, the high-flying music mogul who’s no stranger to controversy, just found himself slapped with a whopping $100 million default judgment. And the reason? He ignored a sexual assault lawsuit brought against him by a Michigan inmate, Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith, who claims the incident occurred way back in 1997, as reported by TMZ.
The lawsuit claims that during a wild party in Detroit, Diddy allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted Cardello-Smith. According to the inmate’s version of events, the party was a hazy mix of alcohol, weed, and naked guests.
Cardello-Smith recounts that while he was engaging in an intimate act with a woman, he suddenly felt a male hand on his backside. He asserts that it was none other than Diddy himself. Not long after, Diddy allegedly handed him a drink that was spiked, knocking Cardello-Smith out cold.

When Cardello-Smith regained consciousness, he claims he witnessed Diddy in bed with a woman and heard him say, “I did this to you too.” Pretty disturbing stuff, though many might raise an eyebrow at the timing and circumstances of the lawsuit.
Fast forward to 2024, and despite the jaw-dropping $100 million lawsuit filed by Cardello-Smith, Diddy decided to ghost the entire thing.
No legal response, no court appearances, nothing. So, the judge, clearly unimpressed with Diddy’s disappearing act, handed Cardello-Smith exactly what he was asking for—a $100 million default judgment. If Diddy didn’t think this inmate’s claims were serious before, he certainly has a reason to care now.

As it stands, Diddy is supposed to start coughing up $10 million installments every month starting October 1st. And for a guy who’s been raking in the dough for decades, you’d think this would be an easy bill to pay—though it might sting a bit, even for a mogul of his stature.
Now, Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, wasted no time in trying to crush Cardello-Smith’s credibility, as reported by Detroit Metro Times.
Agnifilo described the inmate as a “convicted felon and sexual predator,” who has been sentenced for a laundry list of crimes, including 14 counts of sexual assault and kidnapping over the last two and a half decades.
He even went so far as to say Cardello-Smith is committing “fraud on the court from prison,” and insisted that Diddy has never even heard of the guy, let alone been served with a lawsuit. Agnifilo is confident this judgment will be “swiftly dismissed.”
Cardello-Smith’s litigious past is nothing new, as he has a history of filing civil lawsuits from behind bars. He claims that he’s a self-taught legal guru and a former hospitality worker who crossed paths with Diddy in Detroit. Whether you buy his story or not, one thing is certain—he’s got Diddy’s attention now.
The story has stirred up quite the reaction on social media. Some users are skeptical, while others draw parallels to other incidents involving Diddy, like the infamous footage of him physically assaulting his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.
That particular incident ended with Diddy issuing a public apology—an image he’d probably rather not relive.
Diddy, who’s made a career out of cultivating fame and launching the careers of music legends like Notorious B.I.G. and Mary J. Blige, might soon find himself shelling out big bucks if this judgment stands. But with his legal team firing back hard, it’s likely this drama is far from over.
