- Stephen Miller accused Democrat controlled states of refusing citizenship checks or access to voter rolls.

- Federal agencies identified roughly 20,000 California registrants described as likely noncitizens.
- The Justice Department sued after California declined to segregate affected mail ballots pending citizenship verification.
Stephen Miller sounded an urgent warning ahead of the midterm elections, accusing Democrat controlled states of refusing to verify the citizenship status of people listed on their voter rolls. His Sunday post argued that the potential number of illegal and noncitizen voters is enormous.
“Not one Democrat state — not one — has either a.) checked the citizenship status of their voter file or b.) shared their voter records with DHS to check citizenship. The total number of illegal and non-citizen voters is astronomical.”

The post quickly attracted tens of thousands of likes and thousands of shares. That rapid response pushed Miller’s warning across X as the administration continues pressing states for access to voter information.
The Trump administration has sought to compare state voter files with federal immigration databases. The stated purpose is to identify noncitizens who may have registered to vote or cast ballots.
Democrat led states have repeatedly declined to provide their complete voter rolls for that process. They have cited privacy concerns, state authority over elections, and questions about the accuracy of federal methods for matching records.
Miller has raised the same issue in previous posts. He said the administration has pursued the information for two years but faced resistance from blue state officials and court orders blocking the effort.
“For two years the Trump Admin has sought federal voter rolls and welfare rolls from blue states to run against the federal non-citizen database—Democrat states refused and Democrat judges blocked DOJ/DHS. In every blue state you can vote or get welfare just by checking a box,” Miller wrote on X earlier this month.

That post connected the voter roll fight to welfare records, another category of state data the administration has sought. Miller blamed both Democrat state officials and judges for preventing the federal comparison effort from moving forward.
In September, Miller issued an even broader claim about the scale of the problem. He also repeated his criticism of states that refused to provide records for federal review.
“Noncitizen voting is widespread, commonplace and pervasive. Also: all blue states have refused to share their voter rolls and liberal judges have refused to allow DHS to scrub them.”

California became a specific focus earlier this month. The Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security identified roughly 20,000 California registrants whom the agencies described as “likely noncitizens.”
Federal officials asked state and local authorities to segregate the mail ballots belonging to those voters until their citizenship could be verified. California declined to comply with that request.

The Justice Department then sued California. A department press release announcing the lawsuit said more than 20,000 people who are likely aliens are registered to vote in the state.
The press release also emphasized that every registered voter in California receives a ballot through the mail. That detail increased the administration’s focus on verifying the status of the registrants identified by federal officials.
The dispute now remains fixed on access to state voter files and the use of federal immigration databases to review them. Miller maintains that Democrat states have resisted the checks, while those states continue citing privacy, election authority, and concerns about matching accuracy.
Stephen Miller just gave the greatest closing argument to Vote Republican in the midterms ever:
“President Trump, since he came down that golden escalator has saved America. He saved America from a corrupt political class he saved America from open borders…” “President Trump took a bullet for you. He bled for you. He faced life in prison for you and what he needs from you tomorrow is your vote.” Masterclass, @StephenM — Benny Johnson (@bennyjohnson) November 3, 2026
