Florida Governor Ron DeSantis joined Palm Beach County officials for a press conference Sunday after a deadly plane crash tore through an area of West Palm Beach. The crash occurred just miles from President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

The Learjet 60 plunged straight toward the ground before exploding, killing all nine people aboard. The impact scattered debris across a substantial area and left a large crater beside the road.

DeSantis described the crash as “cataclysmic” while briefing reporters about the devastation. He offered a stark description of what the aircraft looked like during its final descent.

“It looked like a missile going down. It left a big crater on the side of the road,” DeSantis said.

The governor said wreckage was thrown across a considerable distance by the force of the crash. At the time of the press conference, officials had received no reports that people on the ground were killed or injured by the flying debris.

“There was a lot of debris that was spewed as a result of this crash. As of now, we don’t have any reports of anyone who was on the ground apart from the people in the plane who were killed or injured as a result of debris. But the debris was significant, and it went over a pretty significant distance,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis said he had spoken with county officials and the Federal Aviation Administration as the investigation proceeded. He cautioned that more details would emerge as officials continued working at the scene.

“There’s going to be more information that will come out. They’re still doing different things. Obviously, when the FAA people get here, they’re going to be able to get a lot more,” he said.

Palm Beach County Commissioner Joel G. Flores said the residential community near the crash was being evacuated. Approximately 600 people needed to find another place to stay for the night because authorities were treating the location as a crime scene.

“Unfortunately, that’s a crime scene,” Flores said of the crash site, adding, “They’re investigating that, so the people can’t stay there. We are relocating them to two shelters in the county. They’re in standby.”

The evacuation forced residents from their homes while officials secured the area and investigated the wreckage. Flores said the county was using two shelters to accommodate those displaced from the community.

Flores also described the impact site as a “massive crater.” He estimated that the damaged road would remain closed for at least 30 days as authorities dealt with the scene.

County Administrator Joseph Abruzzo said the county would send an emergency declaration to DeSantis. The announcement came as county officials addressed the evacuation, road closure, and immediate consequences of the crash.

Officials had not determined what caused the Learjet 60 to plunge from the sky. Audio from air traffic control captured the alarming final seconds before the aircraft struck the ground.

“We’re descending 8,000 feet — mayday, mayday! We’re descending 10,000 feet per minute,” the pilot shouted.

A female crew member then delivered a final frantic warning as the recording abruptly ended. “Holy f*ck, we’re out of time!” she shouted as the audio cut off.

The recording provided a harrowing account of the aircraft’s rapid descent, but it did not establish the cause of the crash. DeSantis said the Federal Aviation Administration’s involvement would allow officials to obtain additional information.

The immediate response remained focused on the deadly scene, the scattered debris and the evacuation of roughly 600 people. Officials also faced the lengthy road closure caused by the crater left beside the roadway.

All nine people aboard the Learjet were killed, while officials had no reports at the time of casualties on the ground. The investigation remained underway as county and federal officials continued examining the catastrophic crash.
