Kid Rock shared a lighthearted story about President Donald Trump during Friday’s episode of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” recalling a golf outing in which Trump unexpectedly handed him the phone during a call with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The discussion began when Maher asked Kid Rock about his personal experiences with Trump.
“Bob, you’ve gotten to know Trump personally over the years. What’s something about him that people would be surprised to learn? Oh, you want to tell the Macron story?” Maher asked.
Kid Rock initially appeared unsure which story Maher meant.

“The what?” he replied.
Maher clarified, “The Macron, the golf cart story.”
Kid Rock then began recounting the episode, saying the encounter happened while he and Trump were golfing.
“Oh yeah, that was funny. Yeah, we’re out golfing, and I hate speaking out of school, but this is just a fun one. And I mean, the guy’s taking calls all day. He’s working while you’re golfing. The guy does not stop working. I think we can all agree on that. He works. He sleeps like maybe four or five hours a night, right?” Kid Rock said.
According to Kid Rock, Trump received a call from Macron while the two were on the course.
“So we’re out there. Macron calls. He’s like, blah, blah, blah. He’s talking. We’re on the golf cart, right? I’m standing next to his golf cart. He’s like, ‘Hey, I’m here with the great Kid Rock,’ like Macron knows who I am. And he’s like, ‘Bob, say hello.’ So he gives me the phone.”
Kid Rock said he then found himself speaking directly with the French president.
“I’m like, ‘Hello, Mr. President.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m from the Paris of the Midwest, Détroit.’ And Trump leaves!”
Maher immediately laughed at the punchline and pounded the table.
“I love that,” Maher said.
The rest of the panel also laughed as Kid Rock described being left on the phone with Macron after Trump drove away in the golf cart.
Trump handed Macron’s call to Kid Rock, then drove off in the golf cart, according to Kid Rock’s story on Bill Maher.

The exchange came during a broader conversation in which Maher also discussed his own experiences involving Trump and the White House.
Maher referenced a lengthy message from Trump and commented on its size.
“Did you see the 1,300-word tweet he sent out? Longest ever. Kind of a flex.”
Maher also joked about the experience of dining at the White House and the public reaction that could follow afterward.
“Dining at the White House is the opposite of the Cheesecake Factory. After you leave, they review you,” Maher said.
He continued with another joke about Trump’s criticism.
“He went off on me like Kelly Clarkson in a toy store.”
Maher then compared the experience to dating singer Taylor Swift.
“Eating with Trump is like dating Taylor Swift. It’s a lot of laughs at the time, but later on they’re tearing you a new asshole.”
The segment mixed personal stories and jokes with a glimpse into how Trump interacts with guests in private settings.
Kid Rock’s story focused less on politics than on Trump’s tendency to conduct business while golfing and his casual decision to hand the phone to someone standing nearby during a conversation with a foreign leader.
The anecdote also reinforced Kid Rock’s description of Trump as someone who continues working even during recreational activities.
The most memorable part of the story, however, came when Trump apparently left Kid Rock behind while he was still speaking with Macron.
That detail produced the biggest reaction from Maher and the panel and became the central moment of the exchange.
The segment offered a rare behind-the-scenes anecdote involving Trump, Macron and Kid Rock while also giving Maher an opportunity to revisit his own interactions with the president in his usual comedic style.
