- Lokhova says she was falsely portrayed as a Russian spy.
- She alleges intelligence connections at Cambridge helped target her.
- Lokhova identifies Stefan Halper as a key figure in the controversy.
- Martin says her book helps unpack the origins of the Russia investigation.
Ed Martin highlighted a new book by Svetlana Lokhova examining the Russia investigation and the people she says helped build the narrative that tied Donald Trump and Michael Flynn to Russia.
Martin introduced Lokhova as someone he considers a victim of the Russia hoax and said her book, The Grand Conspiracy, breaks down the events, individuals, and media coverage surrounding the controversy.
"One victim of the Russia hoax, someone whose voice has been heard for years now, is Svetlana Lukova. She was lied about and accused of improper actions, and she was dragged through the mud. It was a hit job, a personal hit job, and she's now written a book."
Martin said the book provides a detailed account of what happened and who was involved.

"The book is called *The Grand Conspiracy: How Obama Leached the Deep State to Destroy Donald Trump, and the reason I've asked Fetlana to join us is because we have to unpack the Russia hoax for years and years and years. They've done this to us for years. It's going to take years to unpack it."
He added that the book focuses heavily on the mechanics of the story and the people behind it.
"What Svetlana's book does, and I'm about halfway through it, is it breaks down very specifically what happened, what the details are, how the press was involved, how individuals were targeted, what the lies were, and very importantly, who the players were"
Lokhova then explained how she became involved in the controversy. She said she was born in the Soviet Union, moved to the United Kingdom as a child, studied at Cambridge University, and later met Michael Flynn at an event in 2014.

"So I'm an nobody, which is kind of the point of the story. I'm just a regular person. I was born in Russia, or the Soviet Union rather. I immigrated to the United Kingdom when I was a kid, and I was privileged enough to join the University of Cambridge, and I graduated from the University of Cambridge, and then I ended up writing my PhD."
She said the meeting with Flynn later became the basis for allegations she strongly disputes.
"And back in 2014, I was at an event with General Michael Flynn, who by back then was the head of the DIA, you know, the Defense Intelligence Agency. And that was that's it."
Lokhova said that after Trump’s election, she was suddenly portrayed as a Russian spy who had compromised Flynn.

"And then back in 2017, after President Trump got elected, I suddenly became accused of being a Russian spy who somehow recruited and compromised President Trump's national security adviser"
She said the claims grew more serious from there.
"I somehow had an affair with President Trump's national security adviser, and then suborned him to start to work for Russia. That's the story they put in the media"
Lokhova argued that the accusations against Flynn then fed into broader suspicions surrounding Trump.
"And then the result was that they started investigating President Trump as a result of him appointing General Michael Flynn because they made it look like if General Flynn was a traitor, therefore President Trump was a traitor."
Martin asked Lokhova whether intelligence agencies, the media and figures at Cambridge had worked together in creating the narrative around her.
Lokhova said she initially thought the stories were simply the result of media hysteria.
"So I was pretty naive at the time. So from my perspective, I didn't realize what was going on."
She said the situation became especially surreal because she had just had a baby and was living with her husband when the stories portrayed her as a Russian operative.
"And just to take a step back, I'm happily married, you know, with a British husband and a baby. And actually, when all the stories came out about me being some sort of, you know, Mata Hari, I actually literally just had a baby."
Lokhova said she later researched the matter as a historian and concluded that intelligence connections at Cambridge played a role.
"What I didn't realize at the time, but as a professional historian, I researched the subject, so now I can tell you with full confidence what happened."
She then made a series of allegations involving former CIA Director John Brennan, Cambridge University and British intelligence figures.
"Is that so? So the CIA, John Brennan, is happens to be friends with people at the University of Cambridge, and so the University of Cambridge, which I thought was a legitimate university, it's a number three at university, was actually being used as a sort of cover story for a lot of CIA and MI6 British intelligence agents to perform what I now understand to have been covert operations."
Lokhova said she later learned that her own professor had intelligence connections.
"So it then transpired that my own professor, somebody I've known for 20 years, was actually also a British intelligence officer"
She also referenced Sir Richard Dearlove and Christopher Steele.
"And he was a close friend with, as you rightly said, Sir Richard Dearlove, who was a former head of MI6, and Richard Dearlove was a boss, and he vouched for Christopher Steele. You know, the author of the famous Steele dossier."
Martin then asked why Lokhova herself had been targeted.
Lokhova said the people involved appeared far less sophisticated than she once imagined.
"Well, I mean, I think you're right in that you'd expect, you know, from all the books I've read and from all the material I read, you'd expect your CIA or MICs, all these operatives to be highly sophisticated. Right."
She identified Stefan Halper as one of the key figures.
"It then now transpires that it was basically a bunch of like eight-year-old guys. They were based out of the University of Cambridge, and there was one specific person called Stefan Halper. He was, we now know, a CIA operative"
Lokhova added that Halper openly discussed intelligence connections.

"And he is physically, you know, he went around boasting that he's somehow connected to the CIA, and frankly, it sounded like some kind of like bad joke."
Martin agreed with that characterization.
"Like a bad joke, it really did."
Lokhova continued:
"There was basically a bunch of has-beens at the University of Cambridge,"
Martin closed by arguing that the Obama administration was central to the events Lokhova describes in her book.
"And they were trying to be, and they were trying to be heroes, and I would say, and sorry, Svetlana, but I'm I'm going to be out of time. But my read on it, and I'm only halfway through your book, and I will encourage everyone. The grand conspiracy, it was a bunch of has-beens, a bunch of wannabes, and the Obama administration, who's at the heart of this, as you put in your book, Obama and President Obama and his team, they were desperate, especially after they lost the election."
He ended by urging viewers to read Lokhova’s book and continue examining the Russia investigation.

"So, Svetlana Lekova, I have to go. Thank you again. The book is the Grand Conspiracy, and you need to check that out and read that book. You have to break the hoaxes. You have to be a hoax buster."
"The book is The Grand Conspiracy, and you need to check that out and read that book. It's extraordinary. It's got real depth. It breaks down very specifically what happened, how the press was involved, how individuals were targeted, what the lies were, and very importantly, who the players were."
