Piers Morgan and Ben Shapiro have taken their increasingly bitter public feud to another level, with the two media personalities trading insults this week over Morgan’s show, political coverage, and their long-running disagreements over Israel, as reported by The New York Post.

The latest exchange began Wednesday after a social media user criticized Morgan for wanting Shapiro to appear on his program, “Piers Morgan Uncensored.”

Morgan responded by declaring that Shapiro was no longer welcome on the program, writing, “No, @benshapiro is now banned from @PiersUncensored – he’s become ratings kryptonite, so I can’t risk him dragging down my massive numbers.”

Shapiro quickly pointed out that Morgan’s announcement was somewhat beside the point because he had already said publicly that he would not appear on the show.

“Oh no, you’re banning me from a show I announced publicly I wouldn’t do months ago because you’re Political Bonnie Blue, whatever will I do now,” Shapiro wrote.

Shapiro followed that post with another criticism of Morgan’s position on free speech and platforming controversial figures.

“Also, I’ve been reliably informed by midwit British clickwhores that denial of platform is a violation of free speech principles and censorship, or something,” Shapiro wrote.

The latest clash is the newest chapter in a relationship that once included frequent appearances by both men on each other’s programs.

Their disagreements have become increasingly personal as their positions on Israel, political media and controversial guests have diverged.

Morgan and Shapiro first famously clashed on CNN in 2013 during a discussion about gun control.

Shapiro accused Morgan, who has advocated for stricter gun regulations, of being “a bully” and “standing on the graves of the children of Sandy Hook.”

Despite that confrontation, the two continued appearing on each other’s programs for years. Shapiro continued appearing on Morgan’s show into 2024.

Their relationship eventually deteriorated amid disagreements surrounding the Israel-Hamas war. Morgan has said the split was connected to his increasingly critical coverage of Israel’s government.

Shapiro has since criticized Morgan’s choice of guests and his approach to political interviews.

In March, he referred to Morgan as the “Jerry Springer of political television” and accused him of giving a platform to anti-American and extremist voices.

One particular point of contention has been Morgan’s repeated interviews with comedian Dave Smith. Smith has said that “America is arguably the worst terrorist organization in the world.”

Morgan responded to Shapiro by calling him a “cancel culture vulture” and defending his decision to interview controversial personalities.

Morgan has argued that his program allows viewers to hear controversial opinions while also giving him an opportunity to challenge the people making those arguments.

The dispute intensified again after Morgan interviewed recently deported Milo Yiannopoulos and invited him to respond to Shapiro’s criticism.

Shapiro subsequently devoted part of his own program to attacking Morgan’s style of political media. He described Morgan’s show as a “Jerry Springer-Click-Bordello” and accused some media personalities of seeking attention rather than maintaining consistent political positions.

“There are lots and lots of people in our public life who grift for clicks and cash, and you can tell who they are by the fact that they shift their views and their personas on a routine basis, kaleidoscopically,” Shapiro said.

He argued that audiences contribute to the cycle by rewarding sensational political personalities with attention.

“People love car wrecks,” Shapiro said, before urging his viewers not to encourage the behavior.

“So here is a solution: do not donate your attention to them,” Shapiro said.

“There are only so many breaths you have in this life, and you’re not going to get these breaths back.”

Morgan soon turned Shapiro’s comments into another point of attack, sharing a clip of Shapiro’s remarks.

Morgan then responded to another social-media user who praised Shapiro for maintaining intellectual consistency.

“Ironically, Ben has proven himself to be an amoral, intellectually dishonest click-whore, especially about Israel, which is why nobody watches him anymore, and they all watch me instead,” Morgan wrote.

Shapiro has also mocked Morgan’s appearance on social media. He recently posted a photograph of the late Irish actress Brenda Fricker, who played the Pigeon Lady in “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” as a jab at Morgan because of the resemblance he saw between the actress and the British broadcaster.

The back-and-forth has now moved well beyond their original disagreements over policy and media coverage. What began as combative but generally cordial television appearances has evolved into an openly hostile public dispute, with both men using their platforms and social-media accounts to respond to the other.

For now, neither side appears interested in letting the feud fade quietly.
