White House border czar Tom Homan spoke about the safety of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during a recent interview, becoming emotional as he described what he said are increasing threats directed at officers and their families, as reported by Trending Politics News.
Speaking about the challenges facing immigration enforcement personnel, Homan said ICE agents are not only federal law enforcement officers but also parents and family members whose personal lives have been affected by their work.
“You know, guys, ICE agents are mom and dads, too,” Homan said.
“They don’t hang their heart on a hook every day to do this job. And it’s just not attacking the ICE agents, it’s attacking their spouses and children, and no one knows that better than me.”

Homan said the threats directed at him have become significant enough that he now requires security protection for routine public activities.
“I can’t even go get a quart of milk at a grocery store without a security detail. Why? Because I’m enforcing laws in this country. It’s pathetic, and it’s disgusting.”
The interview comes as immigration enforcement continues to generate political debate across the country.

According to the report, ICE officers have experienced increased harassment, threats, and confrontations while carrying out enforcement operations.

Those safety concerns intensified following two recent fatal officer-involved shootings in Maine and Texas. According to the report, ICE temporarily paused most vehicle stops while agency officials reviewed training procedures and operational tactics.
The temporary suspension was intended to determine whether additional safety measures could better protect officers conducting field operations.
During that review period, agency leadership evaluated existing practices and considered whether modifications were necessary before resuming normal operations.
The report stated that the review focused on improving officer safety while maintaining the agency's enforcement mission.
The Trump administration also announced plans to equip all ICE field offices nationwide with body cameras.
According to Homan, expanding the use of body cameras is intended to increase transparency during enforcement encounters while also providing additional protection for officers by documenting interactions with the public.
The pause in vehicle stops was later lifted after President Donald Trump directed ICE to resume the practice.
According to the report, the president described traffic stops as an important law enforcement tool for locating and apprehending individuals who are in the country illegally or who are wanted for immigration violations.
Homan has defended the decision to resume vehicle stops while maintaining that officer safety remains central to every enforcement operation.
He has also cited incidents involving doxxing, online harassment, and threats against ICE personnel and their family members as examples of the challenges facing the agency.
As immigration enforcement remains a prominent national issue, administration officials have continued to emphasize both enforcing federal immigration law and implementing measures designed to improve the safety of ICE officers working in communities across the country.
Homan reiterated that the well-being of the agency's personnel remains a primary consideration as ICE continues its enforcement activities.
