Vice President J.D. Vance is advocating for the SAVE AMERICA Act, legislation he says is designed to prevent illegal aliens from participating in U.S. elections, arguing that even rare instances of unlawful voting should be eliminated entirely.
Speaking about the proposal, Vance described the measure as a straightforward effort to ensure that only eligible voters take part in federal elections. He said the legislation would establish clear safeguards to prevent illegal voting.
“If you know anything about this legislation, what the SAVE AMERICA Act does is that it makes it impossible for illegal aliens to vote in our elections. Pretty common sense,” Vance said.
He framed the issue as one of election integrity, stating that the goal is to eliminate any possibility of unlawful participation.

“Now, I think that's pretty easy, right? We don't want illegal aliens vote in our elections,” Vance said.
Vance also addressed arguments that illegal voting is uncommon, saying that even if such claims are accurate, they do not justify leaving the issue unaddressed.
“My favorite thing is, whenever I bring this up, you'll have some Democrat on TV who will say, well, we don't have to worry about that because illegal immigrants voting in our elections is very rare,” Vance said.
“Well, number one, how about we put it to zero? Okay, even if you're right. Number two, you're not right. It happens way more often than a lot of people appreciate,” he added.

As part of his remarks, Vance referenced a recent case involving an arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“In fact, just this week, ice arrested an illegal immigrant. I'm going to read this because I want to make sure I get it right, an illegal immigrant from Mauritania who's voted in seven federal elections since 2008,” Vance said.
He said the example illustrates his argument that such cases may occur more frequently than commonly believed.
“And I haven't got good authority that at every single election he voted for Don Davis. I don't know about that. I don't know where he voted, but I guarantee it wasn't for us. Okay? It wasn't for America first policies,” Vance said.

Vance questioned why lawmakers would not move to prohibit illegal voting if it is considered rare.
“Now here's the thing, though, even if you take the Democrats at their word, even if illegal aliens voting is very rare, then why don't we ban it anyway? It's not that complicated,” he said.
He also criticized what he described as conflicting arguments against the legislation.
“It is one thing to say, I don't get it. The Democrats say this never happens, or it happens only very rarely, on the one hand and on the other hand, we must not stop it. It doesn't make a damn bit of sense,” Vance said.
Vance concluded by reiterating his support for the SAVE AMERICA Act and its stated purpose of ensuring that elections are limited to eligible voters.
“We need to get all illegal aliens stopping from voting in our elections. It's very common sense stuff,” he said.

Vance overlooked the best argument, which is based on the Democrats’ own reverence for our democracy: The foundation of democracy is voting. Failure to protect the integrity of the ballot is hardly indicative of sincerity in this cause.
