Former Vice President Kamala Harris drew online mockery this week after accepting the key to the city of Jackson, Mississippi, where the city’s mayor also proclaimed last Wednesday as “Kamala Harris Day” in recognition of her “accomplishments.”
As reported by The New York Post, Harris, the former Democratic presidential nominee, was in Mississippi as part of a nationwide book tour promoting her memoir, “107 Days,” when she was honored by Jackson Mayor John Horhn.
The event took place on Wednesday evening at Thalia Mara Hall and coincided with the reopening of the concert venue.
During his remarks introducing Harris, Horhn praised her record and significance to the city, the state, and the country.
Wow, Jackson Mississippi's mayor just declared 'Kamala Harris Day' to celebrate her "countless achievements".

“Kamala, you don’t know what you mean to Jackson, Mississippi. You don’t know what you mean to Mississippi. You don’t know what you mean to America,” Horhn said.
The mayor then announced the proclamation.
“And, in recognition of your many, many firsts, in recognition of all of the accomplishments that you have made … I signed a proclamation declaring Jan. 14, 2026, Kamala Harris Day in Jackson, Mississippi,” Horhn said, as Harris clasped her hands to her chest.
Horhn added, “We need you now, more than ever,” before presenting Harris with the ceremonial key to the city.

The tribute quickly sparked a wave of reaction online, with critics questioning Harris’ record following her loss to President Trump in the 2024 presidential election. Several social media users openly mocked the honor.
“Name one accomplishment! Just one!” one user wrote on X, adding that the country had “dodged the biggest bullet ever.”
Another user referred to Harris as the “Queen of cackles and word salad.”
“You’d have to ask Willie Brown,” another commenter joked, referencing Harris’ former relationship with the former San Francisco mayor.

Despite the criticism, Harris appeared unfazed as she took the stage and addressed the audience.
“Well, that was a great way to start,” Harris said as she began her remarks, before pivoting to a discussion of her book, which details her 2024 presidential campaign and other personal experiences.
During the event, Harris sharply criticized President Trump, calling him “corrupt” and “incompetent.”
She also compared him to Bull Connor, a white supremacist public safety official from the 1950s and 1960s, though she appeared to confuse Connor’s association with Alabama while speaking in Mississippi.
Harris also claimed she had foreseen the direction of events following Trump’s return to office.
“I predicted almost everything that’s happened,” Harris told the audience.
The discussion was moderated by comedian and Mississippi native Rita Brent.
Harris further reflected on her reaction to losing the 2024 election in November, describing the immediate aftermath in emotional terms.

“I had no words except to say over and over again, ‘My God, my God, my God,’” Harris said.
The appearance fueled renewed speculation about Harris’ political future, as she continues to make public appearances while promoting “107 Days.”
While no formal announcement has been made, Harris has been rumored to be considering another run for the White House.
