A licensed private investigator told Fox News that she uncovered evidence of what she described as “ghost daycares” operating in California, raising questions about oversight, public spending, and transparency under the state’s current administration.
Amy Reichart discussed her findings during an exchange with Fox News host Jesse Watters, saying her investigation began after similar issues were exposed in Minnesota.
Reichart said she turned her attention to California’s state records to determine whether comparable problems existed.
“After what's been exposed with the day cares in Minnesota, I'm a licensed private investigator. In California, I started looking into state records, and I found ghost day cares,” Reichart said.

“These are places where the state inspectors showed up. There would be 28 kids enrolled, and there were no kids there in the middle of the day and in the middle of the week.”
According to Reichart, the records showed facilities listed as operating child care services with dozens of enrolled children, yet state inspectors reportedly found no children present during inspections conducted on regular weekdays.
She said those findings prompted further scrutiny into how such facilities remained registered and eligible for state programs.
Watters questioned whether California Governor Gavin Newsom’s administration would respond by addressing the issue directly once it was raised publicly.

“All right, so a ghost daycare. Is that something Gavin Newsom could say? All right, you know, we'll try to shut that down. Does he cooperate when you start raising this?” Watters asked.
Reichart said she has not seen cooperation from the governor’s office.
Instead, she claimed that steps were taken to limit public access to the very records used to identify the alleged problem.
“No. In fact, today it got word from the governor's office, there's been a directive to actually shut down public access,” Reichart said.

“So right now, you can't even search the own state website to look into these ghost daycares, but I have found a work around.”
Watters responded by suggesting the move raised further concerns about transparency and accountability.
“Okay, well, we don't want to tell the governor that you found a work around so, but it does sound like he's trying to cover his tracks, like this is a cover up,” Watters said.
Reichart emphasized that the issue carries major financial implications, pointing to the scale of child care subsidies under discussion in California and other states.
She compared the potential spending in California to recent proposals in New York, where state leaders have publicly discussed increasing child care funding.
“We're talking about billions of dollars in California today,” Reichart said.
“In New York, Kathy Hochul she said she wants to increase child care subsidies to 4.5 billion. We're talking about the same amount in California, if not even more.”

All Federal Funding needs to be cut off from California till there is a complete investigation into these Ghost Day Care Centers and into Newsom’s connection to same. Because I’m sure there is one!
Is it beginning to look like a “Democrat” State enterprise ? I wonder WHY the Governor tried to shut down public access to State records – surely it can’t be that he is hiding something ? !! Care to explain , Governor ? I suspect this is far from “Going away” ! ;)
