Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE), who identifies as a transgender woman, accused President Donald Trump on Monday of carrying out an “all-out assault” on American democracy, as reported by Fox News.

In a post from her official @Rep_McBride account on X, McBride charged that Trump is following authoritarian tactics.

“This president is taking notes from his favorite dictator. Let’s be clear: a president with popular policies wouldn’t need to illegally gerrymander districts, ban voting machines, or abolish vote-by-mail,” McBride wrote.

“This is an all-out assault not just on free and fair elections—but on American democracy itself.”

The comments came as President Trump continues to press for major changes to U.S. election systems. On Monday, Trump announced via Truth Social that he will sign an executive order aimed at eliminating voting machines and mail-in balloting in future elections.

“WE WILL BEGIN THIS EFFORT … by signing an EXECUTIVE ORDER to help bring HONESTY to the 2026 Midterm Elections,” Trump wrote in part of the statement.

In a separate portion of the post, he added:

“ELECTIONS CAN NEVER BE HONEST WITH MAIL-IN BALLOTS/VOTING, and everybody, IN PARTICULAR THE DEMOCRATS, KNOWS THIS. I, AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, WILL FIGHT LIKE HELL TO BRING HONESTY AND INTEGRITY BACK TO OUR ELECTIONS. THE MAIL-IN BALLOT HOAX, USING VOTING MACHINES THAT ARE A COMPLETE AND TOTAL DISASTER, MUST END, NOW!!!”

Trump also addressed election integrity during an interview with Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity on Friday, following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

“Vladimir Putin, smart guy, said you can't have an honest… election with mail-in voting,” Trump said.

The president’s foreign meetings have included discussions with both Russian and Ukrainian leaders. On Monday, Trump met in Washington, D.C., with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as well as other European officials.

That meeting followed Friday’s session with Putin in Alaska.

McBride’s criticism comes as Trump and Republican leaders make election security a central priority heading into the 2026 midterms.

McBride, who became the first openly transgender member of Congress when elected in 2024, has been outspoken in opposition to Trump’s policies.

Fox News Digital reported reaching out to the White House for comment on McBride’s post.
