JK Rowling is once again stirring the pot—this time, by calling out the absurdity of punishing toddlers for recognizing basic biology, as reported by The Daily Mail.

The Harry Potter author, who has never shied away from defending women’s rights and biological reality, ripped into the education system’s latest woke overreach: suspending a nursery-age child for so-called “transphobia.”

Yes, you read that right. According to newly released government data, a child as young as three or four was suspended from a nursery school in the UK for “abuse against sexual orientation and gender identity.”

The revelation comes as part of a wider report showing that 94 primary school students were suspended or permanently expelled for similar “offenses” during the 2022–2023 academic year.

The idea that preschoolers are being policed for not toeing the left’s radical gender line is shocking—but not surprising, given how far down the rabbit hole this ideology has gone. Rowling minced no words, calling the move “totalitarian insanity.”

“If you think small children should be punished for being able to recognise sex, you are a dangerous zealot who should be nowhere near kids or in any position of authority over them."

Women’s rights advocates and free speech groups quickly rallied in agreement. Helen Joyce from the group Sex Matters said:

“Every once in a while, the extremes of gender ideology throw up a story that seems too crazy to believe, and a toddler being suspended from nursery for so-called ‘transphobia’ or homophobia is one such example.”

She added that teachers pushing adult ideologies onto toddlers should be ashamed of themselves.

The figures also reveal a disturbing trend. In just one year, the number of students suspended or expelled for homophobic or transphobic behavior rose from 164 to 178.

Leading the charge were schools in Essex, Birmingham, Bradford, and Norfolk. And the system only started tracking this data in 2020.

Lord Young of the Free Speech Union called out the rigid, authoritarian mindset fueling this madness:

“If your ideology is so rigid it justifies you punishing toddlers for not complying with it, that’s a powerful argument for discarding it.”

Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated case. In 2022, a Church of England school told the parents of a six-year-old boy that questioning why another student wore a dress could land him a “transphobic” label.

The school also claimed that not using a transgender student’s chosen pronouns or name would be considered discriminatory.

Even higher education hasn’t been spared. Professor Kathleen Stock was forced out of the University of Sussex in 2021 for defending sex-based rights. Last week, Sussex was slapped with a record-breaking £585,000 fine for failing to uphold free speech.

While the Department for Education insists all students should feel safe, their silence on this overreach speaks volumes. When toddlers become the latest targets of radical ideology, it’s clear the system is broken—and people like Rowling aren’t staying silent.
