Kid Rock made waves during his appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday night, earning applause from the audience after pushing back against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

During the discussion, Maher brought up Rock’s 2022 song My Kind of Country, which includes the lyrics, “My kind of country has a Trump and a JFK, an NAACP and an NRA.” Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, said that if he had known Robert F. Kennedy Jr. would be part of Trump’s administration, he would have changed the lyric to include RFK instead.

Maher then asked if Kennedy was the last Democrat he liked, to which Rock responded, “My whole business is Democrats so to speak.”

He went on to say, “That’s the world I’ve operated in for years. Half my band is liberal, gay, or black. I have one of the most diverse bands out there, not because of this DEI sh*t. Just because they are the best at what they do, we all love each other and get along.”* His comments were met with cheers and applause from Maher’s audience.

Maher also questioned Rock about his performance at former President Donald Trump’s inauguration. Rock responded by pointing out that he had also played at an event for former President Barack Obama.

“I didn’t vote for him, I played for him at the Kennedy Center. Everybody’s just gotta calm the f**k down a little bit,”* Rock said.

Later in the show, Rock joined a discussion on the Boy Scouts of America’s recent decision to rebrand as Scouting America in an effort to promote inclusion.

Maher criticized the move, stating, “The whole f**king country is an Onion headline. The Boy Scouts of America cannot be called Boy Scouts anymore because it’s exclusionary. Like there isn’t a Girl Scouts. Like this is some crime against nature.”
