A Chinese national, Zijie Li, age 39, has been arrested following multiple attempts to access former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida. Li, who reportedly sought an audience with Trump, faces charges related to trespassing despite being previously warned by authorities.

Li’s efforts to infiltrate Mar-a-Lago weren’t casual drop-ins; according to law enforcement, he tried entering the club multiple times in recent months. Jail records indicate Li is currently held at Palm Beach County Main Detention Center with a bond set at $100,000, as reported by Fox News.

The situation caught the attention of both the Palm Beach Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service, who have been on heightened alert following an attempted assassination of Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Since that incident, Mar-a-Lago security has been vigilant, especially with recurring attempts like Li’s to gain access.

On July 19, Li’s first recorded attempt to enter Mar-a-Lago took place. He approached the main gate, explaining to a Secret Service agent that he possessed “information” linking China to the recent attempt on Trump’s life.

Li reportedly offered to provide documents to substantiate his claims. Officers quickly issued him a trespass warning and sent him on his way, as Trump was not in Florida at the time, being occupied with the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

In the weeks that followed, Li’s actions continued to raise eyebrows. Between his Mar-a-Lago visit and another Palm Beach stop on July 22, he was reportedly seen circling the Royal Park Bridge and placing Trump-related paperwork on vehicles in the area.

His suspicious behavior didn’t end there; on July 30, Li’s continued presence in the vicinity prompted authorities to arrest him once more for trespassing.

Following his July arrest, Li was ordered to keep a safe distance of 500 feet from Mar-a-Lago as a condition of his bond. However, this condition didn’t deter him. According to police, Li later asked a resident living near Mar-a-Lago if she would help him enter the property, inquiring whether she was a club member and offering to ride with her.

The resident instead contacted law enforcement, who took further action under Florida’s Baker Act, temporarily detaining Li due to mental health concerns.

Released just this past Thursday, Li reportedly made another attempt to access Mar-a-Lago the same evening. Police promptly arrested him, and he remains in custody.

Li’s student visa from California has also drawn attention in the wake of these incidents, raising questions about his intentions and objectives.
