NBC’s Parks and Recreation actor Nick Offerman’s recent attempt at voter advocacy through a satirical music video has sparked considerable backlash on social media.
Released ahead of the November elections, Offerman’s video warns viewers to vote or face the wrath of future generations. The humor, however, took an unsettling turn, as reported by Breitbart.
In one scene, Offerman shows kids violently attacking an elderly man who didn’t vote for Kamala Harris, singing, “You’d better vote/don’t let this moment pass/or future generations will kick your wrinkly ass.”

Though Offerman intended it as edgy humor, viewers saw it as a push for politically driven violence, particularly against older Americans. Offerman’s aggressive imagery has transformed what he likely envisioned as a call to action into a source of outrage.

Criticism hit social media swiftly, with users calling out Offerman’s message as tasteless and inappropriate.

Comments ranged from disbelief to sharp rebukes: “Kids kicking their grandpa? What’s wrong with you?” and “Vote for Kamala, or we’ll beat the elderly.”

The backlash reflects a larger rejection of divisive rhetoric and violent political messages, even in jest. Many see Offerman’s attempt as tone-deaf, alienating people who might otherwise be open to his message.

Despite his deflection, the blowback only grew, with some saying Offerman’s response was merely a Hollywood tactic to avoid accountability.
Many argue that rather than connecting with everyday voters, Offerman’s brand of satire only serves to deepen the divide between Hollywood elites and ordinary Americans.
