New reports are coming in alleging that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are pushing the royal family to give them a 12-month extension to the Megxit deal that would see them keep their royal patronages. The couple reportedly might even go so far as to return to the United Kingdom so that they can seal this deal in person.

Daily Mail reported that after they stepped down as senior royals back in January, Meghan and Harry are trying to secure a more permanent deal to ensure they can continue to be non-working royals while keeping their patronages. This comes after they secured lucrative deals with both Netflix and Spotify that will undoubtedly be looked over meticulously by royal aides as the 12-month date comes closer.

Sources say that negotiations will involve the couple speaking with senior royals via video call. Harry, and possibly Meghan as well, will then return to the U.K. to speak with aides and senior royals in person. It is believed that Harry and Meghan would like to return to the U.K. for the Queen's 95th and Duke of Edinburgh's 100th birthdays.

The discussions that have taken place so far are said to have been "less confrontational" than the ones that happened last January.

Here's What They're Not Telling You About Your Retirement

"Although they will do some of it by Zoom, Harry wants to meet face-to-face to tie it all up. Things seem to have calmed down," said royal biographer Andrew Morton. "Harry has been in contact with the Queen more often than you would think. But certain things you need to be there in person to sort. They will need a few weeks. That could be done after April, depending on Covid."

Morton went on to allege that Harry regrets the way they announced that they were stepping down as senior royals, sharing the news on social media, but that he does not regret the decision itself.

However, another source described the Megxit extension reports as "rubbish."

"This review period was inserted in case Harry and Meghan wished to return as working royal, but they have made it clear they want to live an independent life," one insider said, with another adding, "Harry and Meg are happier than they have ever been. Why would they want to return?"
