“Saturday Night Live” paid an emotional tribute to Patrick Stewart just days after the celebrated actor died at age 86. The comedy program looked back at his memorable 1994 appearance as host, as reported by Page Six.

The tribute featured a throwback video showing the late “Star Trek” star introducing musical guests Salt-N-Pepa. Stewart appeared enthusiastic as he welcomed the group during his hosting turn.

A resurfaced promotional photograph from Stewart’s appearance then filled the screen. Together, the clip and image offered a poignant reminder of his history with the long running comedy show.

Stewart died at his Los Angeles home on Wednesday following a short battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and Lewy body dementia, according to an announcement from his representative. His wife, Sunny Ozell, 47, had been caring for him when he died.

Mayo Clinic defines Lewy body dementia as “the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer’s disease,” which “causes a decline in mental abilities that gradually gets worse over time.”

Stewart’s representative described a deeply emotional atmosphere around the actor during his final days, saying family, friends, music, and prayer surrounded him. The statement also remembered the powerful response Stewart inspired throughout his life.

“He has been held in the warm embrace of family and friends, surrounded by live music, prayer, tears, laughter, and the kind of profound emotion that only he could inspire after a lifetime of devotion to us all,” his rep said.

Marvel Studios joined those mourning Stewart ahead of the release of his last film, “Doomsday,” this upcoming December. The studio celebrated the actor’s enduring portrayal of Professor Charles Xavier in “X-Men” and the wider superhero franchise.

“Marvel Studios is heartbroken to learn of the passing of Sir Patrick Stewart, the legendary English actor who brought Professor Charles Xavier to life,” the statement read.

The studio emphasized the duration and influence of Stewart’s work as the character. “For more than 25 years, he brought a gravitas and profundity to the role, earning fans across the globe and helping to transform superhero storytelling forever.”

The network also highlighted the many films in which Stewart appeared as Professor X after the first “X-Men” movie was released in 2000. His portrayal remained a central part of the tributes recognizing his career.

Hugh Jackman and Famke Janssen were among the many people who paid tribute following Stewart’s death. Jackman portrayed Wolverine in the “X-Men” franchise, while Janssen played Jean Grey.

Stewart had spoken about his devotion to acting during what became his final interview. While talking with TV Insider in July, he declared that he would “never” retire and discussed continuing to pursue roles as he grew older.

“As any actor my age will tell you, there are fewer and fewer available roles as we get older,” he said. “I still continue to receive interesting offers, and I love being challenged by new work,” Stewart said.

Stewart’s words made clear that acting remained an essential part of his identity. “I can’t imagine ever officially ‘retiring.’ I’ll always and forever be an actor.”

That declaration now stands as a final reflection on the profession he loved. As “Saturday Night Live,” Marvel Studios, and his fellow performers remembered him, the tributes focused on the performances, characters, and commanding presence he brought to audiences across his career.
