Bruce Springsteen has plunged into Michigan’s Senate contest with a late appeal for voters to support Democrat Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, even as prominent party figures distance themselves from the candidate and Michigan Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens backs Republican Mike Rogers, as reported by Breitbart.
The singer, 77, used his X account Monday to urge fans to vote for El-Sayed. Springsteen portrayed the candidate as a doctor who is fighting for the Constitution and American democracy.
“Dr. El-Sayed is a fighter for our American Constitution; he’s a fighter for our American Democracy, and he’s a fighter against the corrupt, lawless, and anti-American leadership currently in the White House. That’s why I’m in his corner 100%,” the Born in the USA singer wrote.

The endorsement placed the leftist rocker firmly in El-Sayed’s corner during a controversy that has exposed a sharp split among Democrats in Michigan and nationally. Springsteen’s intervention also gave El-Sayed a prominent celebrity advocate as resistance emerged elsewhere in the party.

Stevens did more than withhold her endorsement from El-Sayed. The sitting Michigan Democrat publicly backed Rogers, delivering a stunning break from her party’s candidate in the Senate contest.
Her support for Rogers revealed the depth of the Democratic division surrounding El-Sayed’s candidacy. The dispute has extended beyond Michigan as establishment figures confront concerns about the candidate, who is described as linked to the Muslim Brotherhood.
Stevens is not the only establishment Democrat to step away from El-Sayed. Other Democrats have also backed away from him at one point or another, widening the contrast between Springsteen’s enthusiastic endorsement and the resistance within the party.
California Rep. Nancy Pelosi criticized El-Sayed for having “concerning” positions. Pelosi also said she has “more Jewish grandchildren than anybody in Congress,” adding another prominent Democratic voice to the controversy surrounding his campaign.
Other reports described centrist Democrats saying they would rather see the seat lost by their party this time than vote for El-Sayed. Those comments showed just how far some Democrats were willing to go to avoid supporting a candidate they viewed as radical.
Rogers, meanwhile, welcomed the unexpected support crossing party lines. The Republican candidate presented his campaign as a home for Michigan voters who wanted to come together after the primary.
“As I said the day after the primary, if you believe Michigan can have a future where we can all come together, you have a home with us.”
Rogers then directly addressed Stevens voters who rejected El-Sayed. He also tied his appeal to housing costs, education, and gas prices while inviting those voters into his coalition.
“I say today: if you are a Haley Stevens voter who rejects this bigoted and hateful candidate, you have a home with us. If you believe we can all work together to make housing affordable, improve education and lower gas prices, you have a home with us. Let’s Get to Work."
The Republican’s response turned Stevens’s endorsement into a broader pitch to disaffected Democrats. Rogers emphasized unity while using stark language against El-Sayed and offering Stevens supporters a direct invitation to join his campaign.
Springsteen’s endorsement now stands on the opposite side of that Democratic rupture. While the singer declared himself fully committed to El-Sayed, Stevens publicly chose Rogers, Pelosi raised concerns and reported centrist voices indicated they would accept losing the seat rather than support the Democrat.
The result is a striking political standoff around El-Sayed’s campaign. Springsteen is urging voters to embrace the candidate as a defender of the Constitution and democracy, while Rogers is welcoming Democrats who reject El-Sayed and want to support the Republican instead.
