WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Stormy weather prevented planes and helicopters from landing, forcing Trump to travel roughly 90 miles from Denton, Texas, to Durant, Oklahoma.
  • Press vans traveling with the presidential motorcade reached speeds of 98 mph during the drive.
  • Trump arrived about two hours late after refusing to postpone or cancel the Oklahoma event.
  • Trump told the crowd he had won Oklahoma and all 77 counties during each of his three presidential campaigns.

President Trump put his motorcade into high gear Thursday after stormy Southern weather ruled out air travel between campaign events in Texas and Oklahoma. Rather than postpone his second appearance, Trump made the roughly 90 mile trip by road.

The president traveled from an event at the Peterbilt Motors manufacturing plant in Denton, Texas, to another event in Durant, Oklahoma. Press members traveling with Trump reported that their vans reached speeds of 98 mph during the drive.

The unusual road trip came after rough weather disrupted the president’s normal transportation plans. Trump typically would have taken Marine One from Texas to Oklahoma, but the conditions prompted a late decision to use the motorcade instead.

Planes and helicopters were unable to land because of the weather, according to Trump. That left the presidential convoy as the available route to Durant, where a crowd was waiting despite the mounting delay.

While traveling north, Trump posted an update on Truth Social for those waiting in Oklahoma. He said the presidential vehicle known as the Beast was moving faster than it ever had before.

“To the Great People of Oklahoma, stay tuned — I’ll be there soon! There was a major weather delay, and the planes and helicopters were not able to land, so we’re driving up from Texas,” Trump wrote.

He also made clear that postponement was not an option he was willing to accept. The president’s message captured the urgency of the drive as the motorcade moved toward the state line.

“They wanted me to postpone the event, and I said, ‘NO WAY, I’M GOING TO OKLAHOMA!’ ‘The Beast’ is going faster than it has ever gone before. It won’t be long. I love you all! See you in a little while.”

Trump eventually reached Durant about two hours behind schedule. Once onstage, he told the crowd that he had refused to cancel the event entirely, even after the weather eliminated his flight options.

The president described asking his team what form of transportation remained available. “I said, ‘What can I take?’” he told those gathered for the event.

Trump then recalled asking about the top speed of the Beast. “I said, ‘How fast does the Beast travel?’ They said, ‘We could go close to a 100 miles per hour,’” he said.

The answer apparently settled the matter for Trump, who recounted giving his team a blunt order to get moving. “I said, ‘Get your a‑‑es in that car. We’re going to Oklahoma.”

The high speed journey followed a significant weather delay and covered the roughly 90 miles separating Denton and Durant. The traveling press reported a speed of 98 mph in the vans accompanying the president.

Trump told the Durant crowd that his determination to appear was not based on a belief that the candidates needed his assistance. Instead, he pointed to the support he received from Oklahoma voters during each of his three presidential campaigns.

The president said he had won Oklahoma all three times that he ran for the White House. He also highlighted his electoral performance across every county in the state.

“We got the most votes ever in the state history all three times,” Trump said. “And we won all 77 out of 77 counties.”

Trump’s comments tied his refusal to cancel directly to the voters who had repeatedly supported him. After planes and helicopters were ruled out, the president chose a nearly 100 mph motorcade ride and arrived in Durant roughly two hours late.

The trip turned an ordinary transfer between two events into a race against weather and time. With the Beast moving faster than Trump said it ever had, the president reached Oklahoma and delivered his remarks rather than postponing the gathering.
