  • Roughly 70 million eligible children with valid Social Security numbers have been automatically enrolled in Trump Accounts.
  • Parents or guardians must claim the accounts before managing them or receiving contributions.
  • Michael and Susan Dell donated roughly $6.25 billion, enough to provide $250 each to 25 million account holders.
  • Families may contribute up to $5,000 annually, while employers may provide up to $2,500 each year.

President Donald Trump celebrated the automatic enrollment of millions of American children in Trump Accounts during a Wednesday press conference in the Oval Office. The government-created investment accounts are designed to grow throughout a child’s life.

The Treasury Department announced last week that every eligible child under 18 with a valid Social Security number now has a Trump Account. According to the White House, the nationwide enrollment brings the total to roughly 70 million accounts.

Parents and guardians must still claim an automatically enrolled account before they can manage it or begin receiving contributions. The accounts are available for eligible minor children, but adult participation remains necessary to put the savings structure into action.

Trump presented the accounts as a direct investment in the financial future of young Americans. “If all goes well, which I think it will, they'll end up being quite rich by the time they're 18, and then 21, and as time goes by,” Trump said.

The president also contrasted the program with what many young adults previously faced upon reaching adulthood. He said children traditionally could turn 18 without any money waiting for them.

An estimated 80% of Trump Accounts are connected to families earning less than $200,000 annually, a White House official told Fox News. The official said automatic enrollment also expands access to philanthropic contributions from private donors seeking to help build children’s savings.

Trump thanked Michael and Susan Dell for donating roughly $6.25 billion to the accounts. That donation is enough to provide $250 each to 25 million account holders, and Michael Dell said the money would be deposited by the end of this week.

Michael Dell, the CEO of Dell Technologies, appeared alongside his wife and Trump at the Oval Office event. Susan Dell delivered an upbeat message to children while urging parents and grandparents to claim the waiting accounts.

“We believe in you, and we want you to dream big because we know you can make your dreams come true,” Susan Dell said. She also told families that the accounts were ready, waiting, and already had money in them.

Those private donations come in addition to the federal government’s single contribution of $1,000 for certain account holders. Eligibility for that Treasury payment is narrower than eligibility for an automatically created Trump Account.

To qualify for the federal contribution, a beneficiary must have been born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028. The vast majority of children therefore will not receive the Treasury payment and will instead rely on contributions from relatives and other eligible contributors.

Trump Accounts are brokerage accounts offering tax advantages that were created through the Republicans’ signature tax and spending law last year. That legislation was called the Big Beautiful Bill.

The accounts are legally structured as IRAs but include special restrictions governing access to the money. Withdrawals are prohibited until the beneficiary reaches 18, giving the investments time to grow before the child enters adulthood.

The normal contribution limit is $5,000 annually for 2026 and 2027, followed by inflation adjustments in later years. The government’s $1,000 initial payment does not count toward that $5,000 annual limit.

Family members and friends may contribute as much as $5,000 per year to a child’s account. Employers are permitted to contribute as much as $2,500 annually for the children of their workers.

Trump said more than 70 companies have agreed to make Trump Account contributions for their employees’ children. The participating companies he named included Uber, Intel, Nvidia and Steak n’ Shake.

“Now, every member of the next generation will have an investment account and will benefit from our booming economy,” Trump said. Children also held a banner celebrating the accounts during the White House news conference.

Parents and guardians can claim and manage their children’s accounts through the official Trump Accounts app. The app is available through Apple’s App Store and Google Play, while a web version provides another way for families to access the program.
