Rick Ross was arrested Thursday after a woman identified as his girlfriend reported a violent attack at his Miami Beach home. According to CBS News, the woman accused the rapper of repeatedly striking her and restricting her breathing inside his Star Island mansion.
Ross, 50, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, was booked into Miami-Dade’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 6:10 a.m. Jail records listed charges of battery and battery by strangulation.
Police said the alleged attack happened in late August and was reported on Tuesday, September 29. The woman told investigators that she and Ross had been in a relationship for about a year.
According to police, the couple had also been living together before the alleged attack. The woman described a confrontation that she said began after Ross woke her at the residence.

CBS News reported that the woman claimed Ross was angry because she had been tagged in a photo on Instagram. She said he questioned whether she was lying to him and allegedly slapped her in the face.

Later that morning, Ross allegedly accused the woman of being involved with another person. She told police that he struck her in the chest several times during the confrontation.
The woman further alleged that Ross restricted her breathing by grabbing and twisting the collar of the hoodie she was wearing. Her account also described the violence continuing inside the home.

According to the woman, Ross grabbed her by her ponytail and slammed her against a wall. She claimed he then struck her in the face, causing her lip to split.
The woman also alleged that Ross pushed her to the floor before turning on the shower. According to reports, he then attempted to spray her with the shower head.

After getting out of the bathroom, the woman gathered her belongings and left Ross’ residence. Her allegations later became the basis of the criminal charges listed in the jail records.
Ross retained attorney Bradley Horenstein and filed not guilty, according to court information obtained by NBC Miami. Horenstein denied the allegations on his client’s behalf and urged the public not to rush to judgment.
The attorney said the allegations were false, maintained that Ross was innocent and said the truth would emerge through the process. His response came as Ross prepared to appear before a judge following his booking.
Ross appeared in Miami-Dade bond court on the morning of October 1 through Zoom. Judge Mindy Glazer said she had reviewed the arrest report and found probable cause in the case.
During the hearing, Horenstein noted that Ross is a celebrity and asked whether his release could be expedited because of his fame and concerns about his safety in jail. TMZ reported on the exchange and said the judge was not impressed by the celebrity argument.

According to TMZ, Glazer responded, “I have no idea who you are.” She then said Ross would be treated fairly, “just like everybody else here.”
Glazer set bond at $4,000 for the battery by strangulation charge and $1,000 for the misdemeanor battery charge. The two amounts brought Ross’ total bond to $5,000, and he bonded out late Thursday morning.
The judge also ordered Ross to have no direct or indirect contact with the woman. That prohibition included contact through third parties, social media and other electronic methods.
Ross was additionally ordered to stay away from the woman’s home, workplace or school. The restrictions accompanied his release after the court hearing and bond decision.
