Kevin Federline is facing a costly legal fight now that the child support payments he received from Britney Spears have ended. City National Bank has sued the former backup dancer over debts tied to a credit card, a personal line of credit and a personal overdraft line.

Documents obtained by Page Six claim Federline, 48, owes at least $117,704 in total across the three accounts. The filing places a formidable price tag on the money troubles that emerged after the regular payments from Spears stopped reaching him.

The amount cited by the bank does not involve only one unpaid credit card balance. Its lawsuit covers three forms of borrowing connected to Federline, including the credit card, the personal line of credit and the personal overdraft line.

Federline signed his agreement with City National Bank in late November 2024. That timing fell right around the arrival of his final child support payment from Spears, the singer behind “Toxic” and the mother of his two children, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

Federline initially received $40,000 each month in child support while raising Sean Preston and Jayden James in Hawaii. The monthly amount was later cut in half after Sean Preston turned 18, leaving Federline with payments of $20,000.

Those reduced payments continued until Jayden James graduated from high school. His graduation marked the stated end point for the child support arrangement and closed out the stream of money Federline had been receiving from Spears.

Federline addressed the size and use of those payments in his memoir, “You Thought You Knew.” He said the funds went toward security and maintaining the standard of living that Sean Preston and Jayden James had experienced with Spears.

According to Federline’s memoir, those expenses “easily ran well over $40,000 a month.” That figure was greater than the reduced monthly support amount and also surpassed the original $40,000 monthly payment he had initially received.

“The money was gone almost as soon as it came in,” he claimed in the book. His account described the child support as money quickly absorbed by the costs he associated with security and preserving that standard of living.

The lawsuit lays out separate repayment dates for each part of Federline’s debt. It claims he was given until August 2026 to pay the credit card debt, while the personal line of credit came due in June 2025.

The personal overdraft line carried an earlier deadline, according to the filing. That portion was due in April 2025, two months before the stated June deadline for the personal line of credit.

City National Bank is seeking more than the underlying balances listed in its claims. The bank also wants Federline to pay unpaid accrued interest, adding another costly element to the dispute involving the three accounts.

The filing lists interest of 20.5% on the credit card and 7.5% on the personal line of credit. It also seeks 18% on the overdraft line, making the bank’s demand extend beyond the total principal cited in the lawsuit.

Federline’s attorney did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment. No response from his legal representative was included alongside the details of City National Bank’s allegations.

Federline and Spears met in early 2004 before becoming engaged by July of that year. They married in California that September, only months after their first meeting.

Spears filed for divorce in November 2006, and the split was finalized in July 2007. Federline later moved on with Victoria Prince, whom he married in 2013.
