Federal agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., home as part of a criminal fraud investigation reportedly examining immigration paperwork connected to the Minnesota Democrat. The inquiry has reportedly continued for years and now appears focused on documents completed when Omar was a teenager.

Agents arrived before dawn, beginning the search at approximately 6 am and remaining at the home for more than four hours. They were seen carrying boxes of evidence from the property during the operation.

A Department of Justice spokesperson said Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant in the Washington, D.C., area. The spokesperson described the enforcement action as part of an ongoing federal investigation.

The inquiry appears to concern whether Omar and her late father provided false information on immigration paperwork. The statute of limitations connected to allegations that Omar married her brother has already expired.

A former immigration official told the New York Post that if Omar’s father lied on citizenship documents and Omar participated in that lie, it “would wipe her out from naturalization.” The potential consequences outlined by another immigration official were equally severe.

“If there’s enough evidence that she or [her father] lied on her immigration application to become a United States citizen, whether it was one time or several times, the Trump administration could initiate a denaturalization process that would strip her of her citizenship,” a top immigration official told the Post.

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin previously questioned whether Omar’s citizenship was legitimate. “If we can prove that you shouldn’t have been here in the first place, we’ll deport you,” Mullin said.

Border Czar Tom Homan also addressed the issue last month. Homan suggested Omar “lied or misrepresented” herself while becoming a citizen and said she can “absolutely” be naturalized if that is proven.

MS Now’s Ken Dilanian acknowledged that investigators had to present evidence before obtaining judicial search warrants. That concession put the legal threshold for the raid squarely into the network’s coverage, despite its far-left posture.

Dilanian said, “The Department of Homeland Security, which carried out the search, had to present evidence to a judge, suggesting that there was evidence of a crime at this location at Representative Omar’s home in Washington, D.C., or at least that there was probable cause to believe that there was such evidence.”

According to Dilanian, federal investigators are trying to determine whether Omar was 18 when she obtained citizenship in 2000. Omar claims she was born on October 4, 1982.

Omar was reportedly 17 when she became a citizen. Some theories contend that she was older than 18, which would have made her too old to obtain naturalization through her parents and could constitute fraud.

Omar has never established her birth date with a birth certificate. She has maintained that the document was lost or destroyed during unrest in Somalia.

A person familiar with the situation told CNBC that the investigation is complex and has continued for years. The person spoke anonymously because the investigation was not public.

A caption identified HSI agents standing outside Omar’s Washington, D.C., home on Oct. 12th, 2026. The search centered attention on records completed by Omar’s late father when she was a child.

Omar, 44, was born in Somalia and brought to the United States as a child. She became a United States citizen in 2000 at age 17.

She was elected to Congress in November 2018 and represents Minnesota’s 5th District, which includes all of Minneapolis. Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan became the first two Muslim women elected to Congress.
