Journalist Cam Higby recently encountered two supporters of Abdul El-Sayed who were tabling outside a campaign event featuring the candidate, leading to an exchange in which one of the activists openly called for revolution and the violent overthrow of the U.S. government.
Higby approached the pair and asked what organization they were representing. One of the individuals identified the group as the Freedom Road Socialist Organization, or FRSO.
Higby asked the two activists what organization they were representing, and one identified the group as the Freedom Road Socialist Organization.
When Higby asked what the organization stood for, the supporter said, “We believe that the only way to create change in this country is via revolution that won’t happen through reforms.”

Higby then asked what kind of revolution the activist had in mind.
“Overthrowing the government,” the supporter replied.
Higby followed up by asking whether that meant doing so violently.
“Yeah,” the supporter answered.

The exchange continued beyond that portion of the conversation, with the two activists eventually becoming agitated and making clear that they no longer wanted to answer Higby’s questions.
🚨🚨 Abdul El-Sayed supporters who tabled outside his event today said I should be KILLED for being a capitalist.
They called for a VIOLENT overthrow of our government, I caught them on hidden camera. This is SHOCKING. https://t.co/rCIvlY5IxR — Cam Higby 🇺🇸 (@camhigby) October 23, 2026
The comments drew attention because the activists were positioned outside an El-Sayed campaign event while expressing support for a political organization that openly describes itself as revolutionary and socialist.
The Freedom Road Socialist Organization describes its mission in explicit terms on its own website.
“Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) is a national organization of revolutionaries fighting for socialism in the United States. Our home is in the working class.”
The organization says its members are active in several political movements and organizing efforts.
“FRSO members are rooted in the mass movements for justice, particularly in the labor movement and the movements of oppressed nations and nationalities– especially African-Americans and Chicanos. We are also active in the immigrant rights, anti-war, student and youth movements.”
FRSO also describes its broader strategy as one aimed at revolution in the United States.
“We are organizing the united front against monopoly capitalism — with the strategic alliance of the multinational working class and oppressed nationality movements at its core. This is our general strategy for revolution in the U.S.”
The group further states that it is working toward the creation of a new Communist Party.
“FRSO is recruiting and building towards the creation of a new Communist Party based on Marxism-Leninism. This is necessary to lead the way to socialism and liberation.”
The presence of FRSO activists outside an El-Sayed campaign event is likely to raise questions about the broader ideological coalition supporting his candidacy, particularly as socialist and Democratic Socialists of America-aligned activists continue to play a role in progressive political organizing.
The video itself does not establish that El-Sayed personally endorsed the statements made by the activists or that the Freedom Road Socialist Organization was formally operating on behalf of his campaign. What it does show is that individuals supporting El-Sayed were willing to identify themselves with an organization that openly advocates revolution and the creation of a Marxist-Leninist Communist Party.
The most striking portion of Higby’s exchange came when the activist moved beyond broad revolutionary language and explicitly answered “Yeah” when asked whether overthrowing the government should happen violently.
That statement places the encounter well outside the normal bounds of campaign advocacy and political disagreement.
The footage also highlights the contrast between conventional electoral politics and the ideology described by the activists themselves. While El-Sayed is seeking political office through the electoral process, the supporter told Higby that meaningful change would not come through reform and instead required revolution.
The organization’s own description reinforces that position by stating that its strategy is aimed at revolution in the United States and that it is building toward a new Communist Party based on Marxism-Leninism.
The encounter is likely to draw additional scrutiny over the types of political groups and activists attaching themselves to El-Sayed and other candidates associated with the socialist left.
For conservatives, the video will also revive questions about how major media outlets would respond if activists associated with a right-leaning campaign were captured on camera openly calling for the violent overthrow of the federal government.
In this case, however, the comments were not ambiguous. The supporter directly identified the organization, said reform was insufficient, called for overthrowing the government and answered affirmatively when Higby asked whether that meant violence.
