Michael Marcel of Fugitive TV discussed the lone holdout juror in the Lindsey Clancy case, saying the juror believes his political views may be one reason he has faced increased scrutiny following the trial.

The case centered on Clancy and the deaths of her three young children.

The trial ended in a mistrial after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict, with 11 jurors supporting a finding that Clancy was not criminally responsible and one juror refusing to join them.

Marcel said he personally spoke with the holdout juror and described him as a kind man who is Catholic.

According to Marcel, their conversation eventually turned to the attention the juror has received since the case ended.

"He was very kind, Catholic, and you want to hear something very funny? We started talking,” Marcel said.

Marcel said the juror has developed his own theory about why he has become a target of criticism and public attention.

According to Marcel, the juror believes his political affiliation and conservative views may be playing a role.

“He thinks he knows why he might be getting targeted. He’s a Republican. He is a black Republican. He has conservative views,” Marcel said.

The juror’s role in the case drew attention because he was the lone member of the panel who did not join the other jurors in supporting the conclusion favored by the rest of the panel.

His refusal to agree with the other 11 jurors prevented a unanimous verdict.

Marcel said the juror believes the political differences between himself and others involved in the discussion surrounding the case could explain at least some of the reaction directed toward him.

“He believes he might be getting targeted because of that,” Marcel said.

Marcel also pointed directly at the news coverage surrounding the case, arguing that reporters covering the trial appeared to have political views different from those of the holdout juror.

“Because the media and the reporters, as you could see, they kind of have left views,” Marcel said.

According to Marcel, political differences were not limited to the media attention surrounding the case.

He also said the juror served alongside people affiliated with the Democratic Party.

“He was in a juror panel with people of the Democratic Party,” Marcel said.

Marcel’s comments focused on how the holdout juror views the scrutiny that followed his decision.

Rather than discussing his vote solely as a disagreement over evidence or criminal responsibility, Marcel said the juror believes his political identity has become part of the reaction to him.
