The Trump administration’s campaign to reestablish law and order has received a major boost from a rebuilt and repurposed Federal Bureau of Investigation.

On Tuesday, FBI Director Kash Patel used his official X account to highlight testimony delivered before the House of Representatives’ Oversight Committee.

Patel focused first on the bureau’s role in protecting several major international events held in the United States since President Trump returned to office.

Those events attracted millions of visitors while presenting federal authorities and their partners with an enormous security challenge.

According to Patel, more than 12 million visitors came to the United States for the Club World Cup, two F1 races, six America 250 events, and this year’s World Cup.

The FBI also protected 300,000 Americans at the Olympics.

Despite that massive collection of events and visitors, Patel said there was not one major security incident.

He credited support for law enforcement, cooperation with partner agencies, and a sustained focus on the bureau’s mission.

“This is what happens when we back the blue, and this new FBI has been rebuilt to crush violent crime and defend the homeland,” Patel told lawmakers.

The result allowed Americans and international visitors to enjoy the events without seeing them overtaken by crime or terrorism.

The scale of the events makes the security record particularly notable.

While some good fortune can accompany any large gathering, the FBI and its partners had responsibility for protecting Americans and foreign travelers across multiple venues and occasions.

Patel also presented lawmakers with the bureau’s results against violent criminals and wanted fugitives.

He said the 2025 Uniform Crime Report showed the largest reduction in the murder rate in American history.

The director further said the FBI had captured more than 2 1/2 times the number of fugitives from its top ten most wanted list than were captured during the prior administration.

Patel then corrected the committee chairman’s count of nine captures.

“We haven't captured nine of the top ten individuals on our most wanted list. We've captured ten,” Patel said.

He described the total as 10 of 10 and said nobody in FBI history had previously accomplished that result.

Patel said the tenth fugitive was captured in Venezuela during the previous weekend after spending years on the run.

He described the suspect as a thug and said the captured fugitive was on his way back to the United States.

The director characterized the bureau’s targets as some of the worst criminals around the world.

In addition to the fugitives from the most wanted list, Patel said the FBI had captured six of the world’s most wanted fraudsters.

The bureau’s focus on its top targets reflects the view that a relatively small group of criminals commits a substantial share of crime.

With the previous group of ten apprehended, attention can now turn toward the next criminals placed on the list.

The results offered a sharp contrast with the FBI’s conduct during the Obama and Biden administrations, when the bureau became a pale and partisan shadow of its former self.

Under Patel, that decline appears to have been reversed, at least for now, and the bureau is again emphasizing violent crime and homeland security.

Patel also addressed a request from Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa regarding the director’s travel expenses.

In doing so, he took a pointed swipe at previous FBI directors and contrasted their responsiveness to congressional oversight with his bureau’s document production.

“Unlike prior FBI Directors who entirely ignored your request for this and other information, this FBI has delivered historic transparency in the pursuit of constitutional oversight - in just 16 months, producing 48,300 pages of documents to Congress - a 202% increase from the number produced by predecessors Comey and Wray combined in 10 years.”

Patel’s presentation combined security results, fugitive captures, falling murder figures, and document production for Congress.

His message was straightforward: The rebuilt FBI is backing law enforcement, cooperating with its partners, pursuing dangerous criminals, and defending the homeland instead of serving as a partisan political shadow of its former mission.
