“Home Improvement” star Jonathan Taylor Thomas was detained in Westlake Village, California, on Monday after an encounter in which he allegedly resisted deputies.

Reports cited public intoxication and obstruction, with one account alleging that the former child actor kicked a deputy in the stomach.

Court records obtained by Fox News Digital show that Thomas was detained at the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff's station. He was booked and subsequently released.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Thomas was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by police.

Deputies reportedly instructed him to remain inside the vehicle, but he allegedly exited anyway and was reportedly intoxicated at the time.

Law enforcement told People magazine that the vehicle's driver was being detained for a DUI investigation when Thomas decided to get out.

Deputies told Thomas to return to his seat, but authorities said he did not comply with their instructions.

“He was uncooperative with them, failed to follow orders, and obstructed the investigation, so he was arrested for obstruction, and he was arrested for drunk in public,” law enforcement told People magazine.

When authorities attempted to detain Thomas for public intoxication and obstruction, he allegedly “kicked a deputy in the stomach,” according to People magazine.

The reported legal trouble arrived shortly after Thomas reunited with his former “Home Improvement” cast members Patricia Richardson and Taran Noah Smith.

The three appeared together in a rare reunion photograph shared by Richardson in July.

Richardson sparked a wave of nostalgia when she posted the picture more than 25 years after the sitcom ended. “My other boys,” she captioned the photograph, adding a heart emoji.

Richardson played Jill Taylor for eight seasons of the hit comedy series. Jill was the wife of Tim Allen's character, Tim “The Toolman” Taylor, and the mother of the three Taylor sons.

Thomas and Smith became household names while playing Randy and Mark Taylor, respectively. Zachery Ty Bryan portrayed the oldest Taylor son, Brad.

The show's cast also included Richard Karn, Debbe Dunning and Earl Hindman alongside Allen, Richardson, Thomas, Smith and Bryan.

The July gathering offered fans an uncommon glimpse of Thomas after his extended absence from Hollywood.

Thomas became famous for playing Randy Taylor and emerged as a major teen heartthrob during the 1990s.

His film appearances included “Tom and Huck” and “Man of the House,” and he voiced young Simba in Disney's 1994 blockbuster “The Lion King.”

At the height of his fame, Thomas made the unexpected decision to step away from the entertainment business.

He later explained that choice during a 2013 interview with People magazine.

“I'd been going nonstop since I was 8 years old,” Thomas told the magazine. “I wanted to go to school, to travel and have a bit of a break.”

Thomas departed “Home Improvement” during its eighth and final season.

His character's absence was explained through a storyline that had Randy moving to Costa Rica.

Although Thomas largely remained outside the spotlight, he briefly returned to acting between 2013 and 2015.

He reunited with his television father, Tim Allen, on “Last Man Standing,” appearing in four episodes and directing three.

The reunion photograph with Richardson and Smith became one of Thomas' rare recent public appearances.

The reported encounter in Westlake Village placed the former child star back in the headlines under dramatically different circumstances.
