A new hidden camera video has put Democrat James Talarico on the spot, capturing the Senate candidate saying he would fight for transgender children with the same fervor he showed in the Texas Legislature. The recording places his own words against the more moderate posture he had publicly claimed.

Talarico had insisted that he opposed gender reassignment surgeries for minors. He also presented himself as having become a social moderate after winning the nomination, but his remarks to people he believed were supporters painted a strikingly different picture.

In the recording, Talarico directly connected his conduct in the Texas Legislature to what he intends to do if elected to the U.S. Senate. His language left little mystery about whether he planned to abandon that approach.

“The way I fought for trans kids in the legislature is how I will fight for them in the US Senate,” Talarico said. That declaration directly tied his proposed Senate agenda to his record as a Texas legislator.

When pressed about whether he would continue the same agenda in the U.S. Senate, Talarico offered another blunt answer. “My position hasn’t changed,” Talarico added, cutting through the suggestion that his stance had shifted with the nomination.

The video therefore clashes with the social moderation Talarico had attempted to present. When talking with individuals he believed were friendly to his campaign, he openly said that the position driving his legislative conduct remained intact.

His Texas record provides the clearest example cited in the video’s wake. In 2023, Talarico voted against Senate Bill 14, a measure that sought to outlaw gender transition surgeries for minors in Texas.

Senate Bill 14 also prohibited state funds from being allocated to entities that performed those surgeries. Talarico opposed the legislation and used severe language while attacking it on the Texas House floor.

He labeled the proposal “the most dangerous bill that’s being heard on this floor this session.” His opposition did not appear to soften after lawmakers considered and passed the measure.

As time went on, Talarico’s criticism became even more heated. He eventually described the bill’s passage as right-wing “Christofascism” in Texas, framing the legislation in some of the most inflammatory political terms available.

Those previous statements now carry fresh significance because Talarico said his position remains unchanged. Rather than distancing himself from how he fought the legislation, he promised to bring the same approach to the U.S. Senate.

The hidden camera recording captures the candidate addressing supporters rather than delivering another carefully polished claim of social moderation. In that setting, he described continuity between his Texas record and the agenda he would pursue in Washington.

Talarico is running against Republican Ken Paxton for control of the Senate seat. Election Day is only 35 days away, placing the newly revealed comments squarely inside the closing stretch of the contest.

The choice outlined by the recording is unusually clear. Talarico said he would fight in the Senate as he fought in the Legislature, while his 2023 vote shows exactly where he stood on legislation concerning gender transition surgeries for minors.

His remarks also undercut any attempt to portray his prior opposition as a position left behind after securing the nomination. Talarico did not describe an evolution or retreat, but instead declared that his position had not changed.

With the election approaching, Talarico’s own words now define the dispute more sharply than any campaign makeover could. The candidate who claimed social moderation has simultaneously promised supporters the same transgender agenda he pursued in the Texas Legislature.
