On September 15, Abdul El-Sayed sat for what amounted to a friendly interview with Roop Raj, an anchor with Fox 2 in Detroit.
Raj had already praised El-Sayed as “brilliant,” setting a comfortable stage for a candidate facing serious questions about his record and agenda.
The event also carried baggage from Raj’s handling of debates.
He was accused of planting campaign staff members in the audience to ask questions and refusing to verify blatantly false statements made during the proceedings.

That history helps explain why Mike Rogers skipped the supposed “debate.”
Participating would have meant contending not only with El-Sayed, but also with a moderator portrayed as firmly in El-Sayed’s corner.
Even with the friendly treatment, El-Sayed’s interview did little to strengthen his campaign.
Instead, his answers exposed more questions about his qualifications, political alliances, campaign contributions, and sweeping policy proposals.

One basic concern involved El-Sayed’s medical credentials.

Despite the image suggested by his public profile, El-Sayed has never held a valid medical license and has never treated patients, meaning the supposed doctor has no record of actually practicing medicine.

The interview also turned to campaign donations from people connected to CAIR.
El-Sayed called demands that he return money from a group accused of funding terrorism “racist,” choosing indignation instead of distancing himself from the contributions.
Rogers demanded that El-Sayed return nearly $130,000 donated by more than 40 people tied to CAIR.
Those named included national chair Manal Fakhoury, treasurer Eyas Abdeen, vice chair Emad Sabbah, and Michigan board member Muzammil Ahmed.
The Unity & Justice Fund was also identified as a super PAC affiliated with CAIR’s lobbying operation.
That financial support creates an awkward contrast with El-Sayed’s stated opposition to corporate money, another contradiction his friendly interview failed to smooth over.

El-Sayed was also pressed about Hasan Piker, another controversial figure in his political orbit.
Piker was described as someone who hates America and wants Iran to possess nuclear weapons, yet El-Sayed refused to distance himself from him.
El-Sayed’s explanation rested on Piker’s audience, with three million people listening to the commentator.
Apparently, a large audience was enough for El-Sayed to reject calls for separation, regardless of the radical views attributed to Piker.

Piker was hardly the only radical connection raised during the interview.
El-Sayed was asked whether he would support the far left plan to abolish police, prisons, and the border, issues that directly affect public safety and immigration enforcement.
Those are not trivial questions for a candidate seeking support from Michigan voters.
Voters deserve to know whether Democrats such as El-Sayed intend to place criminals and illegal aliens ahead of citizens, communities, and the enforcement of existing laws.

El-Sayed’s domestic agenda brought more warning signs.
He wants to repeal the Working Families Tax Cuts and provide welfare benefits to illegal aliens, a combination that would strip away tax relief while expanding government benefits to people in the country illegally.

His health care proposal carries an even larger price tag for taxpayers.
El-Sayed supports a “Medicare for All” scheme that would quadruple taxes, adding another massive government expansion to a platform already crowded with radical priorities.
The overall performance was damning precisely because the setting was so favorable.
With a moderator portrayed as an ally, El-Sayed still appeared defensive and petty while defending positions characterized as dangerous for America and far too radical for Michigan.
The stakes extend beyond a single campaign.
The 2026 midterm elections will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda, and Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress as voters confront the direction offered by Democrats such as El-Sayed.
