An Uber Eats delivery driver was taken into custody Monday after a physical altercation involving a Barstool Sports security guard at the company’s Manhattan headquarters, according to the NYPD and Barstool founder Dave Portnoy, as reported by The New York Post.

The incident unfolded around 2 p.m. at Barstool’s office at 333 7th Ave. in Midtown following what police described as a verbal dispute.

The confrontation eventually became physical, with a 31-year-old man allegedly punching a 45-year-old man multiple times in the face.

Portnoy posted a video of the incident on X, describing the episode as a chaotic scene at Barstool’s headquarters.

According to Portnoy, the dispute began between the delivery driver and a Barstool employee over an order.

“We had a crazy scene today at Barstool World Hq,” Portnoy wrote. “An Uber Eats driver got in a fight with Gia in the hallway over her order. Our security guard Dan went into the hall to tell the guy to leave, and he attacked him.”

The footage shows the confrontation escalating in a hallway inside the company’s office. According to the video posted by Portnoy, the delivery driver and the security guard struggled before the guard was knocked to the floor.

The driver then continued fighting with the security guard as several Barstool employees intervened. Three employees eventually stepped in and worked to separate the two men and restrain the courier.

The employees were able to pull the delivery driver away from the security guard before calling 911, according to the report.

Police confirmed that officers responded to the Barstool office after receiving a report of the altercation. A person of interest was taken into custody, and the investigation remained ongoing.

Authorities said it was not immediately clear what prompted the confrontation or what occurred immediately before the physical altercation.

The security guard, identified by Portnoy as Dan, was treated at the scene, according to police.

Portnoy later addressed the condition of the employee in another post.

“Danny may need a few stitches and a couple beers,” Portnoy said about the guard. “All in all another day at the Stool.”

Portnoy also used the incident to take a sarcastic shot at New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, whom Portnoy has previously said he would “love to” challenge in a future mayoral election.

“Shoutout Mandami’s [sic] NYC,” Portnoy wrote in his post.

The incident drew a response from Uber, which said the delivery driver involved has been removed from its platform.

“We are horrified by the conduct displayed. Violence is never tolerated, and we’ve removed the courier’s access to the Uber platform,” a company spokesperson told The Post in a statement.

“We stand ready to assist police however we can.”

Barstool Sports did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the incident.

The altercation occurred at Barstool’s Midtown headquarters and was captured on video, giving authorities and the public a direct look at the confrontation as employees attempted to bring it under control.

The NYPD investigation is continuing, and authorities have not released additional information about potential charges against the person taken into custody.
