Victoria Beckham missed Melanie Chisholm’s recent wedding, but the absence was not caused by any trouble between the longtime friends. Chisholm explained that her fellow Spice Girl was in New York with her husband, David Beckham, because of the World Cup Final, as reported by Page Six.

Chisholm addressed Victoria’s absence during an appearance on Australia’s KIIS 106.5 on Wednesday. She made clear that Victoria had wanted to attend the ceremony and was disappointed that her schedule prevented her from being there.

“Victoria was very disappointed to not be there. She was with David [Beckham] in New York, and it was the football final, the World Cup,” Chisholm said while discussing why Victoria could not join the celebration.

According to Chisholm, Victoria attempted to find a way out of attending the football event. However, the Beckham family was there, and David had commitments connected to his position as an ambassador for FIFA.

Chisholm also noted that Victoria is not the biggest football fan and would not mind that detail being shared. Despite that lack of enthusiasm, the fashion designer remained in New York with David and their family for the final.

Page Six obtained photos of Victoria and David watching Spain defeat Argentina during the World Cup Final. The couple attended the match alongside stars including Tom Cruise while Chisholm prepared to exchange vows in the English countryside.

Although Victoria could not attend the wedding in person, she still had an important part in Chisholm’s big day. The fashion designer created the dress worn by the singer for the romantic ceremony.

“Of course, she made my gorgeous dress, and she was messaging me on the day,” Chisholm said of Posh Spice. Her involvement therefore continued even while she remained far from the wedding venue.

Chisholm and those attending the celebration kept Victoria informed throughout the occasion. “We were giving her updates and sending her pictures,” the singer explained about maintaining contact with her absent friend.

Chisholm married model Chris Dingwall in a romantic countryside wedding on July 18. The couple exchanged their vows at the Country House Cumbria in England’s Lake District.

Victoria was the only fellow Spice Girl unable to attend the occasion. Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell Horner and Melanie Brown all joined Chisholm for the wedding, according to the Daily Mail.

The celebration also reportedly included Chisholm’s daughter, Scarlett, from her previous relationship with Thomas Starr. Scarlett, who was 17, reportedly served as her mother’s bridesmaid during the ceremony.

Victoria’s absence had already drawn an explanation around the time of the wedding. A source close to the fashion designer told the Daily Mail that she was disappointed about missing Chisholm’s special day.

“Victoria would have loved to have been there if she could,” the insider said. The source explained that Victoria was in the United States with David and that the World Cup arrangements had been established well in advance.

“She was sad she couldn’t be there because she’s in the US with David and of course the World Cup plans had been set for a long time. But she was wishing her all the best from afar for Mel’s special day.”

Chisholm’s comments confirmed that Victoria’s absence came down to those existing plans and David’s FIFA responsibilities. Even without attending the countryside ceremony, Victoria contributed the wedding dress, exchanged messages and received photographs and updates during the event.
