Newly released messages from Dr. Anthony Fauci’s government-issued phone reveal that top federal health figures privately discussed serious concerns involving pregnant women and mRNA vaccines, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.
Those conversations stand in sharp contrast to the confident public assurances that followed only days and months later.
Republican Senators Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Rand Paul of Kentucky released the January 25 and January 26, 2021, exchange on Monday.
(01.25.2021) Fmr. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy Texts Tony Fauci:
“I've been hearing the concern about the mRNA causing mutations in the developing fetus as well.” pic.twitter.com/3jzRq3JL23 — Chief Nerd (@TheChiefNerd) August 11, 2026
It was part of an initial disclosure drawn from more than 34,000 text messages and 522 voice messages recovered from Fauci’s phone.

The messages show Fauci raising a potential danger connected to the second vaccine dose during early pregnancy.
He wrote that because “many people have significant cytokine storm and fever after the 2nd dose, this theoretically could be associated with miscarriage in the 1st trimester.”
Rochelle Walensky, who would lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention under President Joe Biden, acknowledged the issue. She responded that it was “definitely a good point, esp after dose two.”
Vivek Murthy, who soon became Biden’s surgeon general, then raised another alarming concern circulating at the time.

His private response showed that questions about fetal development were being discussed at the highest levels of the federal health establishment.
“I’ve been hearing the concern about the mRNA causing mutations in the developing fetus as well. That’s a really good point re the cytokine storm post second dose,” Murthy wrote in the exchange.
The next day, Murthy highlighted a World Health Organization announcement advising against Moderna vaccination for pregnant women because sufficient data were not available.
He asked Fauci and Walensky for their assessment because “I imagine we will all get asked about this.”

Fauci answered by arguing that officials needed to weigh vaccination concerns against the dangers posed by COVID.
He also claimed that more than 10,000 pregnant women had already received vaccines with “no issues.”
Just days later, Fauci presented a much calmer message to the American public.
On February 3, 2021, he said the Food and Drug Administration had found “thus far… no red flags about that, about pregnant women.”
By August 2021, Fauci’s public language had become even more forceful.
He insisted there was “no indication whatsoever” of increased adverse issues and declared it was “pretty clear that pregnant women should get vaccinated.”
Murthy also publicly promoted vaccination during pregnancy, with little trace of the uncertainty reflected in his private message.
Americans were told to trust the experts, while the experts themselves had privately traded concerns about miscarriage, inflammatory reactions, mutations, and limited pregnancy data.
“It’s all the more important for you to get vaccinated if you are pregnant or if you are trying to become pregnant … The data points show that the vaccines are safe during these various stages before and during pregnancy … They found generally that anytime during your pregnancy is actually fine [to get the vaccine], and that’s why the recommendation is just to get it,” Murthy said.
The contrast does not prove that every concern raised in those messages became a confirmed medical outcome.
It does, however, expose how uncertainty discussed behind closed doors was scrubbed from the government’s polished public messaging as officials pushed Americans toward compliance.
Questions also surfaced concerning reproductive toxicology testing involving Moderna’s vaccine.
In August 2022, The Gateway Pundit reported that internal company documents obtained by Judicial Watch through a Freedom of Information Act request described skeletal variations among offspring of vaccinated laboratory rats.
Judicial Watch obtained roughly 700 pages connected to Moderna’s Biological License Application submitted to the Food and Drug Administration.
Former pharmaceutical executive Alexandra Latypova analyzed portions of the material, according to reporting cited by The Epoch Times.
The documents reportedly showed that six of 149 fetal rats had wavy ribs, while five of those six also had rib nodules.
Those animal findings did not by themselves establish the same outcome in humans, but they added context to why pregnancy safety questions deserved transparency rather than political stage management.
Federal health officials had every opportunity to tell Americans that the evidence was still developing and that legitimate questions remained.
Instead, the public received sweeping certainty while private messages revealed a far more cautious conversation, another reminder of why trust in Washington’s health bureaucracy collapsed.
