Elon Musk has announced plans to produce what he calls a “historically accurate” version of The Odyssey using artificial intelligence before the end of the year, as reported by Breitbart.

The tech billionaire revealed his vision on X, telling followers that his AI platform, Grok Imagine, would create a full-length adaptation inspired by Homer’s epic poem.

“Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer,” Musk wrote in his post, offering no additional production details.

He included a short clip of an AI-generated scene created through Grok, showcasing early visual work on the project.

In a follow-up post, Musk replied to a fan suggesting that director Mel Gibson be given “$100 million to film an Odyssey adaptation with painstakingly historically accurate ships, armour, weapons and casting, with all dialogue taken straight from the original poem and delivered in Homeric Greek.”

Musk responded that he was “down” with that idea, again signaling his enthusiasm for a highly faithful approach to the material.

The entrepreneur has recently made his disapproval of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey widely known. Nolan’s version, starring Matt Damon, has sparked both discussion and criticism online.

Back in January, Musk accused Nolan of abandoning his artistic integrity, posting that “Chris Nolan [had] lost his integrity” in response to a user who described the director’s upcoming film as “an insult to the author.”

At the center of much of the backlash is the casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy, a choice Musk has consistently mocked and criticized.

In May, the billionaire again weighed in after conservative commentator Matt Walsh claimed Nolan had only cast Nyong’o to avoid accusations of racism. Musk replied to that post with one word—“True.”

Despite these objections, Nolan’s The Odyssey has proven a major draw for theatergoers. Early reports describe its box office performance as significantly exceeding expectations.

The R-rated film, running three hours long, debuted with a $120 million opening weekend, well above projections that had estimated between $80 million and $90 million.

Observers now note that controversy surrounding the movie may have only amplified its popularity, as audiences turn out to compare interpretations of the ancient story for themselves.

Musk’s vow to make his own AI-driven version positions him directly against one of Hollywood’s most prominent directors, while also highlighting his expanding ambitions beyond the tech world.

Whether Grok Imagine can deliver the kind of “historically accurate” results Musk envisions remains to be seen, but his posts suggest the project is already underway.

With both versions of The Odyssey now drawing attention for entirely different reasons, Musk’s latest statement has ensured that this classic tale will continue to spark debate well into the year’s end.
