Sen. John Kennedy delivered pointed criticism of progressive Democratic leaders, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and others, describing their policies and worldview as out of step with what he said Americans expect from their government.

Kennedy’s remarks focused on what he characterized as the direction of the Democratic Party’s progressive wing, which he said has taken control of the party’s messaging and priorities.

“Congresswoman, Ocasio Cortez, Mayor, ma'am Donnie and the people they represent,” Kennedy said. “How can I put this? Their motherboard is fried.”

Kennedy acknowledged that Republicans have their own shortcomings but said he views the current leadership of the Democratic Party differently.

“I mean, Republicans aren't perfect, but they're crazy,” he said.

He argued that the faction he identified as being led by Ocasio-Cortez, Sanders, and others is driving the party’s policy positions.

“They the wing of the party that that is in control, that that Ocasio Cortez and ma'am Donnie and Bernie are the leaders of,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy went on to describe what he believes are examples of positions held by those leaders, including views on historical figures and cultural issues.

“They hate George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln and Dr Zeus and Mr. Potato Head,” he said.

He also referenced debates over language and gender identity, which have been part of ongoing political discussions.

“They hyperventilate on their yoga mats if you use the wrong pronoun,” Kennedy said. “They think our kids ought to be able to change genders at recess.”

Kennedy further criticized what he described as the approach to crime associated with the policies he attributes to progressive leaders.

“They have, they have a unique solution to the crime problem,” he said. “They have a way to get crime down. It's just don't prosecute anybody.”

He said such policies are not aligned with what he believes the public expects from elected officials.

“I mean, they are the American people deserve to be governed by normal people,” Kennedy said. “And these are not normal people.”

Kennedy concluded by reiterating his assessment of the group and emphasizing his right to express that view.

“They're they're deeply weird, they're nauseously woke,” he said. “They have the right to believe what they believe, but, and, but I have the right to my opinion too.”

He closed by returning to the phrasing he used at the start of his remarks.

“And I think their motherboard is fried, deep fried,” Kennedy said.
