Police in Columbus, Ohio, have released body camera footage capturing the events leading up to the fatal shooting of a man outside a private bar on the city’s north side Tuesday night.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, public safety dispatchers received a call around 10 p.m. reporting a disturbance at Moose Lodge 1427, located at 1970 Schrock Road.
The caller indicated that a man was attempting to enter the private club without being a member.
Dan “Boots” Longenette, a board member and trustee of Moose Lodge 1427, described the initial encounter inside the lodge.

“This gentleman came in, hit the buzzer. Our doorman asked him, 'Are you a member?' He goes, 'No, I just wanna drink,' forced his way in, went up to the bar,” Longenette said.
Membership is required to enter the lodge, and staff asked the man to leave. Police said the situation escalated as the man moved toward the exit.
Over the next 20 minutes, additional calls were placed to authorities reporting that the man was armed.
According to police, callers reported that the individual had a gun, had “fired a shot” outside, and was “pointing a gun at everybody.”

Officers arrived at the scene and encountered the man, later identified as 38-year-old Robert Gordon, in the parking lot outside the lodge.
Body camera video shows Gordon walking around the lot with a firearm pointed at his head.
The footage captures officers repeatedly instructing Gordon to drop the weapon.

Police said Gordon did not comply with those commands.
Video shows Gordon continuing to move through the parking lot while officers maintained distance and continued issuing verbal commands.
After several seconds, Gordon appears to turn and walk back toward the building.
Officers can be heard in the footage warning that Gordon was moving in the direction of a group of people gathered around the corner of the building.
Despite continued commands from officers to put down the firearm, police said Gordon did not comply.
A single gunshot is then heard on the video, followed by multiple officers discharging their weapons.
Gordon was struck during the exchange and transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
