Bill O’Reilly said President Trump’s interest in Greenland is focused on securing U.S. military bases to counter growing Russian and Chinese activity in the Arctic, dismissing speculation about territorial takeovers and criticizing media coverage that he said misrepresents the issue.
O’Reilly said his understanding of the situation comes from direct involvement in discussions with President Trump.
“Here's what Greenland is all about. And I know this because I sat in a meeting with President Trump to discuss Greenland,” O’Reilly said.
According to O’Reilly, the objective is to establish a stronger American military presence in the Arctic region.

“President Trump wants military bases in Greenland us, air force and navy,” he said. O’Reilly said the purpose of those bases would be strategic, aimed at countering adversarial activity.
“Wants it to blunt the Arctic expeditions of Putin and China, which are actively underway. That's what he wants,” he said.
O’Reilly described what he characterized as Trump’s negotiating approach, saying it involves applying pressure abroad to reach a desired outcome.
“His negotiating ploy is to create chaos in Copenhagen, which he is doing, and CNN is helping him do that,” O’Reilly said.

He rejected claims that the United States intends to take control of Greenland or other foreign territory, saying those narratives have circulated before without materializing.
“We're not going to take over Greenland,” O’Reilly said.
“I heard about eight months ago we were taking over Canada Leland. Remember that we're going to take it over. I don't think that's happening. Okay.”
O’Reilly said the broader pattern reflects Trump’s dealmaking style rather than expansionist intentions.

“So all of this is what Trump does. He creates chaos, and then he gets his deal,” he said.
He reiterated that the underlying goal is military access and basing rights.
“He needs, we need the United States military bases in Greenland,” O’Reilly said.
He added that he expects those efforts to succeed.
“I suspect we will get them all right, that's what it's all about,” he said.
O’Reilly also criticized media coverage of the issue, arguing that it has focused on sensationalism rather than strategic realities.
“I'm sorry the CNN viewers are so upset, I really am,” he said.
He concluded by mocking how the controversy has been portrayed on television and urging a more grounded understanding of the issue.

Always entertaining to watch leftists’ heads spinning off into space. Great theatre and comic relief.
Yeah, right now Greenland is just one big empty vast nothingness. Putting bases there covers many things for US but mainly to say to Wussia and China, hands off little antsy thieves.
China wants Taiwan, Russia wants East Europe for communist imperialism and colonization, which means enslavement and theft of a country.
