White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer over a health care vote she described as politically motivated, arguing that it lacks genuine intent to lower costs for Americans.
Leavitt made the remarks during an exchange with a reporter about expiring health care subsidies and the administration’s position on the issue.
“Subsidies that are about to expire. Which plan does the White House support?” the reporter asked.
Leavitt said the President and Republicans are focused on advancing policies they believe will address health care costs, while accusing Democrats of creating the current situation.

“Again, I have told you now a few times that the President and Republicans will continue to unveil creative ideas and solutions to the health care crisis that was created by Democrats,” Leavitt said.
She referenced a vote being brought forward by Schumer, characterizing it as symbolic rather than substantive.
“And I know Chuck Schumer is putting up a vote today. This is a political show vote,” Leavitt said.
Leavitt said Schumer’s actions demonstrate a lack of sincere interest in lowering health care costs.

“Chuck Schumer is not sincerely interested in lowering health care costs for the American people,” she said.
According to Leavitt, the vote is being advanced with the expectation that it will fail.
“He's putting this vote on the floor knowing that it will fail so he can have another talking point that he can throw around without any real plan or action,” Leavitt said.
Leavitt said the President’s policies include efforts to reduce drug prices and suggested Schumer has not supported those measures.
“If Chuck Schumer actually wanted to lower health care costs, I'm sure the President would welcome him and his entire Democrat caucus to a legitimate coordination on the President's policies of bringing down down drug prices these most favored nation deals,” Leavitt said.
She questioned why Schumer has not publicly supported those policies.
“Why hasn't Chuck Schumer ever come out in support of those?” Leavitt said.
Leavitt said the administration’s approach has already had an impact on drug prices.
“Those are going to legitimately they already are lower drug prices for the American people, and not a word from Chuck Schumer on it,” she said.
Leavitt concluded that Schumer’s actions demonstrate political motivations rather than a commitment to policy outcomes.
“So I think that just proves this is completely political,” Leavitt said.

People need to realize that the Democrats were the only ones that voted for Obamacare, 100% of them. Zero Republicans voted for it. The Republicans wanted comprehensive health care reform and drug price controls (like Trump is doing), and the Democrats didn’t. The voting record is public information. Our health care debacle is 100% on the Democrats.
Oh Karoline, I just love watching you explaining to the extremely slow learners of how very well America is operating under President Trump.
