Authorities in Washington state believe they have located the remains of Travis Decker, who was accused of killing his three young daughters before fleeing into the Cascade Mountains earlier this year, as reported by  TMZ.

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office reported that a police search team discovered the body on Thursday in a wooded area south of Leavenworth. Officials said the remains have not yet been positively identified, but they are believed to belong to Decker.

DNA testing is now underway to confirm the identity.

Decker had been the subject of a 3 1/2-month manhunt following the deaths of his daughters — 5-year-old Olivia, 8-year-old Evelyn, and 9-year-old Paityn.

Police say the girls’ mother reported them missing on May 30 after Decker failed to return them home following a scheduled custody visit.

On June 2, investigators found the bodies of the three children at a remote campsite in the Washington Cascades. According to law enforcement, the girls were suffocated and discovered with plastic bags over their heads.

At the site, deputies also found zip ties, additional plastic bags, Decker’s truck, and his dog. A bloody fingerprint was located on the tailgate of the vehicle.

Investigators later confirmed that Decker’s DNA matched material collected from the bags and cable ties. Officials accused him of suffocating the children for reasons that remain unclear.

The discovery of the remains in Leavenworth appears to bring an end to an extensive search effort that had stretched through rugged terrain in the Cascades.

Sheriff’s deputies have secured the area where the body was located and are processing evidence while awaiting the results of the DNA analysis.

Law enforcement agencies had conducted widespread searches throughout the summer in an effort to locate Decker, who had managed to evade capture since the early days of June. Authorities had warned the public that he was considered dangerous.

As the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate, officials said confirmation of the identity of the remains will be released following the DNA testing.
