White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Monday that President Donald Trump’s administration is taking the threat of violence involving transgender-identifying individuals and their supporters “seriously” in response to a series of recent high-profile attacks.
Leavitt acknowledged that while transgender-identifying adults make up less than one percent of the U.S. population, multiple violent incidents in recent years have raised concerns.
“It’s definitely something worth looking into and I think anyone who denies that at this point is being willfully ignorant,” Leavitt said during Monday’s press briefing.

She continued, “And the administration is taking it seriously, all causes of violence and why people would be driven to such evil and such hatred. And there’s probably many answers to that question, but the administration is really focused on all of them. For individual investigations and cases, of course, the FBI and the Department of Justice are leading those. But as for this overall violence and domestic terrorism that we’re seeing, the White House and the president’s policy team will be leading the charge and that really begins with designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization and I can assure there will be additional actions to come.”
The remarks come after the September 10 assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, who was shot in the neck while answering a question on mass shootings involving transgender individuals.

Utah County Attorney Jeffrey Gray confirmed on September 16 that the accused shooter, Tyler Robinson, had become “more pro-gay and trans-rights oriented” in recent years and was in a relationship with a trans-identifying ‘furry’ male named Lance Twiggs.

Authorities also said Robinson confessed to Twiggs over text message about committing the killing.
The Kirk assassination is not the only violent case in recent years involving transgender-identifying individuals.
In August, a trans-identifying man named Robin Westman allegedly opened fire through the stained-glass windows of Annunciation Catholic Church, killing two students attending Mass.
Court records reviewed by the Minnesota Star Tribune showed that Westman’s mother had approved a legal name change while he was a minor, reflecting his decision to identify as female.

The March 2023 Covenant School shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, also drew national attention.
Audrey Hale, a trans-identifying female, shot and killed three nine-year-old students and three adults in what became the deadliest school shooting in the state’s history.

A diary released in September 2024 detailed Hale’s personal struggles, self-hatred, and anti-religious sentiments, including derogatory references to both Jesus Christ and her father.
Earlier cases have also been linked to individuals identifying as transgender.
Maya “Alec” McKinney, a female identifying as male, was convicted of participating in the May 2019 STEM School Highlands Ranch shooting in Colorado, where one student was killed and eight others injured.
In 2018, Snochia Mosley, who identified as trans, killed three people inside a Rite Aid distribution center before killing himself.
The Department of Justice has reportedly considered new measures in the aftermath of the August Annunciation Catholic Church attack, including a potential restriction on firearm purchases for transgender-identifying individuals.
No final decision has been announced.
Leavitt’s comments marked the administration’s most direct acknowledgment to date that the White House views the recent series of attacks as part of a broader security concern.
The administration has tied its response to its ongoing initiative to investigate and dismantle extremist networks, including Antifa, which President Trump formally designated as a domestic terrorist organization last week.
Federal authorities, including the FBI and DOJ, continue to investigate each of the incidents individually while also reviewing whether broader policy changes may be warranted to address potential threats linked to ideological or identity-based motivations.
