Several Democratic lawmakers staged attention-seeking demonstrations this week in an effort to oppose President Donald Trump’s major tax and immigration proposal, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

On Wednesday, the Democratic Doctors Caucus gathered outside House Speaker Mike Johnson’s office to hold a press conference aimed at criticizing the proposed legislation.

The six-member group, composed of Democratic Reps. Ami Bera (California), Herb Conaway Jr. (New Jersey), Maxine Dexter (Oregon), Kelly Morrison (Minnesota), Raul Ruiz (California), and Kim Schrier (Washington), wore white medical jackets as they addressed the press.

However, the event was repeatedly disrupted by crowds of tourists passing through the area.

The Democratic Doctors Caucus was formed in March and, according to its launch statement, is “dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of Americans, advancing pragmatic health care policy.”

The group used its press conference to voice opposition to portions of the Trump-backed bill, though specific objections were not detailed in their remarks.

In a separate attempt to generate public reaction, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries posted a photo of himself to Instagram on Tuesday holding a baseball bat.

One commenter asked, “who thought this photo was a good idea,” while another simply stated, “this ain’t it bro.”

Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) commented on the post via X, calling it “Low energy.”

Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell (California) also joined the opposition efforts with a series of profanity-laced videos posted to social media.

In the videos, Swalwell repeatedly referred to the legislation as the “big bullshit bill.”

One video began with an unidentified man asking, “what the fuck is up with [Vice President] JD Vance?”

Swalwell did not correct the language and continued to criticize the bill.

The coordinated messaging from Democrats follows recent polling that indicates declining approval for Democratic leadership in Congress.

Amid these polling concerns, some in the party have turned to unconventional methods of protest to challenge the Trump administration’s legislative agenda.

President Trump’s proposed “One Big Beautiful Bill” includes provisions addressing tax reform, immigration enforcement, and spending priorities aligned with his “America First” agenda.

The bill is considered a cornerstone of the administration’s legislative efforts in the current session.

Speaker Mike Johnson expressed strong support for the bill on Wednesday, sharing a statement on X. “The One Big Beautiful Bill is essential to enacting @POTUS’s AMERICA FIRST agenda,” Johnson wrote. “There is no time to delay. We NEED this bill for a safer, stronger, and more prosperous country.”
