A social media fashion influencer known for mocking the wardrobes of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance has admitted in a public post that he is living in the United States without legal immigration status, as reported by The New York Post.

The admission has prompted a response from the Department of Homeland Security, which indicated it is aware of the matter.

Derek Guy, a fashion commentator with a large following on platforms such as X and Instagram, disclosed his undocumented status in a post on X that has been viewed nearly 5 million times.

Guy’s post criticized immigration enforcement under the Trump administration while revealing his own immigration history.

In his statement, Guy explained that he arrived in the U.S. as a baby with his family after they fled Vietnam following the Tet Offensive. The family entered the United States through Canada.

Guy wrote:

“I’m still unsure whether we technically broke an immigration law. The border between Canada and the United States was pretty porous (as it is today, for the most part). But either way, since I came here without legal documentation, I eventually fell into the category of being an undocumented immigrant.”

Guy said that his immigration status had a significant impact on his life.

“The lack of legal immigration has totally shaped my life. It has made every interaction with the law much scarier. It has shaped which opportunities I could or could not get. It has taken an emotional toll, as this legal issue hangs over your head like a black cloud.”

Shortly after his post gained traction, DHS posted a cryptic reply on its official account — a GIF from the movie "Spy Kids" showing a pair of glasses zooming in, widely interpreted as a signal that the agency is now focused on Guy’s immigration status.

That post reached 20 million views by Wednesday morning.

Vice President JD Vance, who has also been frequently targeted by Guy for his clothing choices, responded with a meme of actor Jack Nicholson grinning and shaking his head. Many users interpreted Vance’s response as subtle approval of the calls for Guy’s deportation.

In reply, Guy dismissed concerns, posting a photo of Vance wearing a fitted suit and writing, “I think i can outrun you in these clothes.”

As of Wednesday, DHS has not publicly confirmed any action regarding Guy’s case, but the department’s reaction has fueled speculation that enforcement may follow.
