According to a statement provided by United Airlines to Fox News Digital:

“United Flight 1169 from Honolulu to Los Angeles returned safely to Honolulu after a potential security concern was found written on a lavatory mirror. Law enforcement met the aircraft, and a security sweep was conducted.”

The plane landed back in Honolulu around 1:35 a.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival, law enforcement officials boarded the aircraft and conducted a full security sweep. It remains unclear what the message stated or whether any further threats were identified during the search.

The FBI’s Honolulu field office is leading the investigation, though officials have not confirmed if any arrests were made or elaborated on the exact nature of the message discovered.

Honolulu police directed all inquiries to the FBI, which had not issued an update as of Wednesday afternoon.

There were 339 passengers and 10 crew members on board at the time of the incident. United Airlines confirmed that arrangements were being made to rebook affected passengers on another flight to Los Angeles scheduled for later in the evening.

“We are rebooking customers on another flight to Los Angeles that departs later this evening,” the airline spokesperson stated.

The incident adds to a growing number of recent airline disruptions caused by onboard disturbances, threats, or suspicious messages.

While no physical threat was confirmed in this case, aviation authorities have continued to treat such incidents with heightened caution due to security protocols in place since the early 2000s.

United Airlines has not provided additional details regarding internal procedures following the flight’s return or whether the crew involved will remain on active duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

The FAA has not issued a statement on the event, and it is unclear if the agency will launch a parallel review.
