Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) lashed out at a reporter with vulgar language when asked about House Democrats’ controversial push to return a deported MS-13 suspect to the United States, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.
The exchange took place following a recent trip to El Salvador by four Democratic members of Congress—Robert Garcia (CA), Maxwell Frost (FL), Yassamin Ansari (AZ), and Maxine Dexter (OR).

The delegation traveled to the Central American country on April 21, 2025, to advocate for the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an El Salvadoran national suspected of ties to the violent MS-13 gang. Garcia was deported during President Donald Trump’s first term.

Myles Morell, a reporter with the Daily Caller, asked Omar whether other Democratic lawmakers would follow suit and join in pressuring both President Trump’s administration and Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele to comply with a U.S. Supreme Court ruling related to the case.

Omar did not answer the question and instead responded, “I think you should f*** off.”
Morell asked for clarification: “I’m sorry, what, congresswoman?”
She repeated the phrase directly: “You should f*** off. You.”

The brief but heated interaction has raised concerns about the tone and conduct of elected officials in public discourse. Omar has not issued a statement addressing the incident or clarifying her position on the case involving Garcia.

The broader controversy centers around the Democrats’ travel to El Salvador to call for Garcia’s return. The trip, reportedly influenced by Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), drew immediate criticism from both sides of the aisle.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has since sought to rein in the political optics of the trip, advising Democrats to hold off on further visits to El Salvador for the time being.
Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), a Democrat who has repeatedly voiced concerns about border security, criticized the delegation’s decision to focus on Garcia.
Cuellar questioned why fellow Democrats were “obsessing over irrelevant distractions” instead of addressing issues facing American communities.

Garcia’s alleged connection to MS-13, one of the most violent transnational gangs operating in the Western Hemisphere, has made the case particularly sensitive.
MS-13 has been linked to numerous murders, drug trafficking, and human smuggling operations across the United States.
Despite the Supreme Court ruling cited by Democratic lawmakers, officials in El Salvador have shown little indication they intend to release Garcia or alter their approach to gang-related deportations.
President Bukele has prioritized a crackdown on gang violence, which has received broad domestic support.
As pressure mounts from both the left and right, the incident involving Omar’s outburst has added a new layer of controversy to Democrats’ handling of immigration and public safety issues.
