House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan has called on FBI Director Kash Patel to release long-requested documents concerning the agency’s handling of the Trump-Russia collusion investigation, according to a letter obtained by Just the News.

Jordan is demanding transparency regarding the FBI’s role in the now-debunked Crossfire Hurricane probe, which he argues was politically motivated and marred by bias.

In his March 2025 letter, Jordan made it clear that his committee is determined to “fully assess and understand the lengths to which the FBI went to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.”

The Ohio Republican is requesting the FBI turn over all documents related to the Crossfire Hurricane investigation—the FBI’s counterintelligence probe into alleged ties between President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and the Russian government.

These documents, Jordan wrote, had been repeatedly withheld by former FBI Director Christopher Wray before his resignation.

Christopher Wray, Director of the FBI, testifies in front of the House Judiciary Committee in Washington on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.

“During the 117th and 118th Congresses, the Committee sent several letters requesting information and documents concerning the FBI’s failings in opening and conducting an investigation—code named ‘Crossfire Hurricane’—into debunked allegations of collusion between President Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and the Russian government,” Jordan stated.

“Unfortunately, former Director Wray failed to produce many of these materials before he resigned.”

Jordan’s letter references Special Counsel John Durham’s 2023 report, which concluded that “neither U.S. law enforcement nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion” when launching Crossfire Hurricane.

The report criticized the FBI for failing to question its own reasoning and instead continuing to push the false narrative.

Durham’s findings further revealed that the FBI ignored intelligence that Hillary Clinton’s campaign planned to fabricate ties between Trump and Russia to “stir up a scandal” and influence the election.

While Wray defended the FBI’s handling of the investigation, claiming that “corrective actions” had been taken to prevent such abuses from happening again, Jordan dismissed those claims.

“Tellingly, however, former Director Wray and former Attorney General Merrick Garland refused the Committee’s repeated requests for relevant records, including records comparing the Crossfire Hurricane investigation to the FBI’s investigation of Hillary Clinton,” Jordan wrote.

One of Jordan’s key requests includes all FBI records relating to the Steele dossier, the now-discredited report compiled by British ex-spy Christopher Steele that was used to justify FISA surveillance on former Trump campaign associate Carter Page.

The Steele dossier, which was funded by Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign and the Democratic National Committee through law firm Perkins Coie, was later exposed as unreliable.

Jordan is demanding the FBI provide all communications and records tied to its use in the Trump-Russia probe.

Other requested documents include:

  • All FISA applications and returns related to Crossfire Hurricane
  • All FBI interviews conducted as part of the Trump-Russia investigation
  • All briefing materials provided to senior government officials on Crossfire Hurricane

Jordan is also requesting access to the “CF – CH Comparison” document, which was compiled during Durham’s investigation and compares the treatment of Trump’s campaign investigation with the FBI’s handling of the Clinton email probe.

The letter also cites Durham’s finding that in July 2016, Hillary Clinton personally approved a plan to fabricate Trump-Russia ties to create a media scandal.

Intelligence on this plan was briefed to then-President Barack Obama, then-Vice President Joe Biden, and then-CIA Director John Brennan.

Despite this, the FBI never opened an inquiry into Clinton’s campaign activities, while aggressively pursuing Crossfire Hurricane despite lacking evidence.

Additionally, Marc Elias, a former Perkins Coie lawyer and Clinton’s campaign attorney, played a key role in pushing the Steele dossier by hiring Fusion GPS—the firm that retained Steele.

Michael Sussmann, another Perkins Coie attorney, was later charged by Durham for lying to the FBI about pushing the debunked Trump-Alfa Bank connection.

Jordan has requested that Patel comply with these document requests by early April. The Judiciary Committee is also reviewing Durham’s final findings and any additional records the FBI may have related to the political targeting of Trump’s associates.

Earlier this week, Just the News reported that Director Patel has already begun handing over records related to the DOJ’s weaponization scandals under the Biden-Harris administration.

The extent of Patel’s cooperation with Jordan’s demands remains to be seen.
