Hollywood has lost another familiar face far too soon. Michelle Trachtenberg, best known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gossip Girl, and Harriet the Spy, was found dead in her Manhattan apartment at just 39 years old.
Law enforcement sources confirmed to The Post that her mother discovered her unresponsive at One Columbus Place, a luxury high-rise near Central Park South, around 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities stated that Trachtenberg had recently undergone a liver transplant, though the NYPD has not deemed her death suspicious. The city’s medical examiner will determine the official cause, as reported by The New York Post.

Trachtenberg’s social media activity had sparked concern in recent months.
The actress, who amassed over 800,000 Instagram followers, shared photos where she appeared visibly frail, leading some fans to speculate about her health. Comments questioning her significant weight loss and even suggesting drug use flooded her posts.
The actress, however, dismissed the speculation, insisting in January that she was “happy and healthy” and had never undergone plastic surgery.
Born in New York City on October 11, 1985, Trachtenberg got her start in Hollywood at an early age. She landed her first major role at just 9 years old, playing Nona F. Mecklenberg on Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Pete & Pete.

She soon became a household name among kids in the ‘90s after starring as the titular character in Harriet the Spy (1996).
As she grew up, Trachtenberg successfully transitioned into more mature roles.
She played Dawn Summers, the younger sister of Buffy, in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and later embraced a more villainous role as Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl, where she thrived as the manipulative and cunning antagonist for multiple seasons.
In 2021, Trachtenberg made waves when she accused Buffy creator and Avengers director Joss Whedon of abusive behavior on set.
She claimed that a “rule” had to be implemented to prevent Whedon from being alone with her in a room. Whedon denied the allegations in an interview with New York Magazine.
Despite concerns about her health, Trachtenberg seemed upbeat on her last birthday. On October 11, she posted a glamorous photo of herself on Instagram with the caption, “39 and I’m feeling fiiiiiine.” The post quickly racked up more than 32,000 likes.
